well i broke the half shaft drag racing the other day.. 1st run of the night 2500rpms dropped the clutch and boom.. had to push the car back and have it towed. then bought a new one and had it installed.

runs fine now.. but havent drag raced it again.. ill be goin next sunday to MIR and testing it on a 1/4 mile..

but does anyone know why this would happen? i thought the stock halfshafts were good to like 350+wtq with wrinkle wall slicks and 5000rpm launches... :screwy:

They usually are, but as anything else that is manufactured they are suspect to manufacturer defects. Take a look at the broken piece if you still have it--there's a chance that there was a divot or mark (or even something as small as a scratch) that could have acted as a stress riser in that area. Anything with sharp edges anywhere on a part encountering any sort of stress (especially torsion, like the half shafts are) can literally rip apart right at the source of the defect. Not always the case, but that's probably what happened.

Also, I believe wheel hop has a habit of eating up CV joints, axles, and the like...is that an issue for you?

Unless you have a racing clutch or something you're doing more harm than good by just side-stepping or dropping the clutch. If you start at a slightly higher rpm and slip the clutch a bit off the line you'll have better luck IMO.

i have an exedy hyper single clutch and flywheel.. and yeah there is some wheel hop, but not too bad.. and no i dont have the broken one anymore :/

You want to come off the clutch pedal just like you stepped in a pile of dog crap. Don't just slip off the side and let it slam, as you will continue to break things. Work on your technique :)

^^yeah thats what im workin on. workin on that, and feathering throttle through 1st and 2nd gear for minimal wheelspin..
