Re: Broken Rear Control Arm

AFAIK, there are no better rear control arms available.
To "upgrade", you'd need to take a stock one and weld additional bracing to it.

Re: Broken Rear Control Arm

Huge sway bars will 'oilcan' an arm to death.

Happens on the vintage stuff too, but on the fronts.

Anytime one installs a bar that's pushing 20%+ larger in diameter than OE, some beef should be added, like Michael says, in the form of add'l plate welded to the endlink area on the arm, if not the entire arm.

what about the focus central one's. i know you have to use coilovers with them, but would they be able to handle the extra load?

Focus Central arms have been known to break even more often than stock. I don't know if they've fixed it since then, but no one seems to be willing to find out the hard way.

The FC breakage that I'm AWARE OF was limited to the Front arms.
I still have a bit of distrust for the rears, considering the lack of R&D that went into the design of the fronts.

Stiff bars and soft suspension is what kills the arms. Those Cup Kits are pretty soft, and that's part of the problem.

i was planning on getting coilovers, possibly the tein coils (initially i thought my shock had blown cuz somehow i didn't see the control snapped), do you think that would be enough to stop this from happening in the future? or do i need to do some welding?

also, obviously i'm going to have to get a new control arm. you guys think the junk yard would be the best way to go?

You might be OK junkyard hunting down in TX. But anywhere that gets salted regularly in the winter will be miserable work to remove and obtain. And then the control arm will likely be shot.

Or you could just get a stock SVT arm that already has a plate welded on.

Oh Yeah? Is it direct bolt-on or is there modification required? I would think that to be a better option

I was unable to find a difference between one SVT and my 2000 ZX3... has anybody photographed the change?

Re: Broken Rear Control Arm

Omni, on my visit to SRF Dan's SVT salvage shop.

He showed me the difference between teh two.

on the control arm, on the top where the endlink comes through is a piece of extra metal plate welded down with a hole drilled for the endlink.

I looked on my stock zx3 ones and i don't have that.

they also carry different part numbers.

I believe he said that for a shrot time, SVT listed 2 part #s for the rear arms but now only 1 exists and we believe it to be the one w/ the added metal plate.

they do exist tho

AlexinRo,
What EXACT metal is used on the Non-SVT arms for those of us who might weld our own braces?

Thanks in Advance.
