don't know how but every one of the adj. cam gear screws/bolts came out on the intake side and all hell broke loose. car started to run like crap and had a very light knock- i quickly pulled over and it died- no restart- the engine turned over very quickly as though there was no compression. it was dark and i couldnt see anything- so i left it there last night and i went back to look at it today and i found all the screws were gone. so my question is- was that noise i heard the valves smacking the pistons? it's a zetec engine with crower stage 2 cams. either way- i am gonna go to the hardware store and pick up some new screws/bolts and see what happens.

well- the answer in this case is no- they can't hit the pistons!! $0.96 and the [censored] is back in action. apparently the knocking noise i heard was each of the 5 bolts bouncing around in the engine compartment shortly after taking flight.
i knew in stock trim it was a non interference engine- but i wasn't sure if the added lift of the aftermarket cams would throw a monkey wrench into things.
