Car No Start

So i was leaving work last night and go to start the car and it won't start. Starter turning over and everything but just wouldn't start. Tried like 3 times longer tries each time and nothing. Next try it kinda starts but it's like it's hardly running and barly turning over then dies. Next try same thing. Pump the gas (fuel injection i shouldn't need to but habit) try and after a long try it starts and is running a little high (guess any extra gass i had pumped in). Friend i work with saw me having trouble and said he saw some black smoke coming out of the exhaust. Ran fine all the way home no odd noises or anything. Again fine this morning to come into work and we'll see what happens in a few minutes when i got to leave tonight. Anyone have any ideas what might have been or is wrong? Anybody else have this happen before?

Last winter i had a similar situation. Car would crank but not start at all. Turns out moisture got into the cylinder head and fouled out all my plugs. From what i hear this is a somewhat common problem with the Zetec motor. Maybe only one or 2 of your plugs are fouled. Might explain the smoke(non-ignited fuel).

Hope that helps.
if you hold the pedal to the floor if you think it's flooded, then the computer will NOT put any more fuel in .

don't "pump" because that will do absolutely nothing . leave it alone . or push it all the way in if it's flooded

good to hear u got it running though . hope this helps you for next time

What he said, When a fuel injected engine is flooded you just hold it to the floor. The car knows enough to stop the fuel flow and you just get air cycling through the cylinders to clear it out.

It works.
