i got a CEL the other night at 83000 miles on my 2000 ZX3.
How can I narrow down what the problem is. My first thought is that it is the pre cat O2 sensor. The car seems to be running fine. If it is the O2 sensor I can change it but I looked it up in the post about CEL codes and there is a whole list of things that could be the problem. How do I narrow it down?
Thanks

or low fuel pressure, or a problem with a MAF, or a wiring issue...

there's a million solutions. generally, yeah, it tends to be an air leak or an O2 but it's pretty hard to diagnose the problem without looking at the car. you're going to have to have a scantool to diagnose that code correctly so you may as well call a shop.

about 90% of your p0171 will be a vacuum leak. Not saying thats what it is, but thats the easiest thing to check. Good luck
