check engine light and \"limp mode\"

After looking around for about 2 hours I STILL have not been able to find a final answer if ANY code that causes the check engine light to come on will pull timing or if just the more serious ones. Anyone know for sure?

Thanks for your time ^^

Re: check engine light and \"limp mode\"

It is my understanding that any light will pull 3-5 deg of timing by default.

But, the CEL for overheating will make it run on 2 cyls.

That's what I have gathered, not 100% sure.

What if I have enough lights on to pull about 15 degrees of timing?

What do I win Drew, another date where you don't call? Huh!

But really, I'm running two codes right now: 1 for the front o2 sensor which is pushing itself into the tranny b/c of the ORP, and the other is for the IMRC motor. I also would have if I hadn't modified anything, a airbag light, a seatbelt light, and can turn on the TC light. So yeah.

Re: check engine light and \"limp mode\"

when my engine blew, it went straight from running fine, into limp mode, and then KABLAMMMY in about 5 sec. didn't even have time to shut it down, the lights flickered and then she died.

dunno if that pertains, but the two codes i had were for cylinder head over heat and cylinder block overheat

There are numerous codes that won't pull timing.
Re: check engine light and \"limp mode\"

Knock Sensor pulls timing.
Overtemp ACT pulls timing.
Overtemp ECT pulls timing.

Unless the CEL is referring to these issues, then no timing is pulled.

If its the O2 thats bad, then the car will feel like it has timing pulled, but its not pulling timing, its because its BROKE! And this goes for every other CEL too besides the ones mentioned above.
Re: check engine light and \"limp mode\"

don't forget the cel will also retard intake cam timing. which will cuase ur boost measurement to rise (almost double)
