This black box broke:

The back end cap fell off and a copper looking metal piece came along with it. I tried putting it back together but I can't seem to figure it out because the car still won't start. Any idea how to bypass this switch or fix it?

No.

You just need to bridge the connection. The switch is just a plunger type, making the circuit when the pedal is down. Just remember to be in neutral or have the pedal down before trying to start it.

You 'could' cut and connect them, but not advisable if you want to replace the switch.

Probably best to just get a new one anyway.
