so I posted this in team tech, I am in a bit of a rush and haven't received a reply there; I know this isn't the forum this should go on, but I normally get replies here. I was wondering where the coolant temperature senderr is located. the guy at the dealership said it's on the other side of the thermostat housing, I suppose he meant on the outside, facing the transmission but I checked there and couldn't find it.

I want to try to get this fixed by this weekend so I can take my fans off of the "always on" mod I did. I browsed the web but couldn't find anything so I am now turning to the always-trusty zetec tuning forum. any help is appreciated

what year is your car my o1 dosent have a coolant temp sender. ( well it does now ) it uses a dry cylinder head temp sensor, located on the rear right of the head blocked by the alternator, it has to be removed to promote extraction.

Yes, I posted this when I was mis-informed. my '01 zetec uses the CHT sensor, not the ECT sender. however, I still get the feeling that my car is.. not really over heating but that it is still getting too hot. and my gauge is STILL not showing anything above normal. are there any other sensors associated with the radiator/fans and the temperature gauge on the cluster? I'm going to pull my thermostat as soon as I get a chance and test it.. I'm about ready to just get some water and oil temp gauges when I can afford them then hook up a toggle switch to engage the fans manually if I can't track down why my fans aren't work when the cooling system gets too hot

Well, I haven't really tested or replaced anything else. I am going to test my car one more time tomorrow on my way home from work. I do believe the fans are working like they should, but not positive. When I pulled into my parking spot, I poped the hood and it sounded like the radiator fans were working so I turned off the a/c and low and be-hold the low-speed fan was on.. but very feint so I turned the air off and yup! question to myself now is if the fans came on because they were told that they were supposed to, or if they came on because I turned the A/C on(remembering that it'll sometimes engage the radiator fans.. because I was getting that feeling of the car over heating.. not to mention the smell of what is either hot radiator fluid.. or just the smell of the steam coming off of a slightly over heated engine.
