So there I was walking around a local car show tonight. Local VFD puts on an annual show, close down part of Main Street for it. There were of course all of the usual suspect muscle cars, (Camaro's, Vettes, Mustang's, etc), some nice custom hot rods and a few tuner cars. But then off in the distance I spy a very unusual double rear wing. My pace quickens along with the my beating of my heart. I finally arrive at my destination & stand there open jawed & dumb founded. In front of me is Cosworth Escort RS. Yes the real deal. Ended up talking to the owner for over an hour. He has wanted one ever since he read about them when the first came out. Now that he has the financial resources, he decided to place a call to Cosworth in Canada. They had a Group N chassis in the garage, and they basically built the car to his specs; Wilwood brakes at all four corners, Compomotive 18" wheels from England, (only 8lbs each). I can't remember if he told me what type of suspension. But you get the drift. The car only has about 1000 miles on it. He didn't even have the hood up, had to ask him to pop it open, and there lay that beutiful Cosworth blue monster motor. The car itself is kind of like a Forest green in color. Grey cloth interior w/ white face gauges. The biggest part is that he is in the end stages of getting DOT approval for the the car. Had to put a high flow cat for the motor, with the biggest hurdle of changing all of the glass. Had to find a specific heated windshield that met thier criteria. Like a bone head did not have a camera with me. He gave me his business card & told me to email him he will email me back some pics so I can show you all. The funniest thing is that all these people were walking buy, taking a quick glance at the car and just walked on, They had no idea what they were looking at. Couple of "Tuners" came up, (owners of the 2 Civics there) and I gave them a quick education. I think they left with a little more respect for a Ford product. The owner is probably around my age, so we got along great. He asked me what I drove, told him a Focus, he then wanted to check out my car. Told him I parked a few blocks away, no problem so off we went. Did the usual pop the hood, kick the tires etc. He told he liked the look of the car especially with the ST200's, he noticed them right away. I pointed out the "Cup Lip" to him and he couldn't believe it was a Mustang part, looked factory. Complimented me on how good the car looked, couldn't believe that it was over a year old w/ 20K on the clock. Told me it looks like it just came off the showroom floor. I don't know, maybe he was just trying to make me feel good, but it was nice to hear anyway. I have already emailed him, so when he sends me the pics I will post them ASAP. Sorry for the long posting, just wanted to share my night.

I Think I read somewhere, that that car "still" holds the 0-62 mph record.

Please correct me if I'm wrong..

I believe you're thinking of the Ford RS200. Also a Cosworth-powered rally homologation byproduct, but quite a lot faster than the Escort, and a much more serious sports car.

Edit: Also, that record belongs to the RS200 Evo, of which there were only 20(?). So, it holds the production car record by only technically being a production car.

Dude, I wish I could afford to buy one. Everytime I see pictures of that car or even here about it, my heart breaks a little bit more. Some day I will find a way...Some day I tell you...Some Day...
