At some point, I'll probably need to replace my rotors. "Frozen rotors" are all the rage on my other car forum. One friend that tracks his S4 Avant swears by them. He is very fast now and is braking very late. That can be tough on brakes with a 4400 lbs. car. He went through at least one set in his first season and switched to these. He is wildly happy with them (also swithched to Carbotech pads). The process is not cheap, but is not that bad all things considered.

When I told the folks at "Diversified Cryogenics" about my application (mostly track with some around town driving to keep the car operational and get it to the track), they came back with these suggestions (specific to the SVT Focus):

1. Rotors
Front FrozenRotors: $115.80 each # 680130
Rear: $88.50 each # 680146
Gas Slotting (if desired): $45.00 per rotor

2. Pads
Front Pads Hawk HP+: $95.79 the set # HB346N.713
Rear HPS: $63.64 the set # HB430F.547

Anyone here ever try frozen rotors?

Here's a link for you:

The SVT versions are not listed on their site. The SVT P/N came in a mail.

Comments welcome.

Side note: I have a set of stock SVT pads that I'll be putting on in the next month or so. Those should last me most of this season. My first season (7 total track days of gradually increasing speed and braking demands) left me with about 60% of my front pads remaining.

I heard of freezing things at extreme low temps a few years ago and it's said to work quite well. Would the 2002 front rotors fit the 2003s?

We used to shag rotors on our 1998 F-350 dually regularly while towing our trailer. We got a set of them cryoed, and the problem went away. Used to go through about three sets in one year. The cryoed set was still going strong when we sold it last year, and they had about two years on them. Mind you its not racing, but trying to stop a dually and a fully loaded 48 ft. trailer going downhill, repeatedly, isn't easy on the rotors. Heres some more info. www.cryosciencetechnologies.com

When we started running stage rallys (late 2000), I had the OEM rotors cryogenically treated. We ran twenty full events (stage rally) and several TSD type rallys on the same rotors, and on one set of Mintex 1144 pads. I just changed them to a set of Brembo rotors (cryo treated).
I've seen video from Ojibwe Forest (2002) with the rotors red hot.
In my opinion, money well spent.
