The story and link...

http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/article/breaking-news-franchitti-replaces-wheldon/

I'm glad to see Dario back in Indycar but at the same time I'm not. Dario well bring experience, skill, and a recognizable name/face to Indycar. This is a bad move by Dario though because many NASCAR heads well say that he (or open wheel guys as a whole despite what Stewart, Juan, and Scott Speed have done) never had the skills for stock car racing. But oh well it is what it is and I'm honestly happy.

I guess Chip fired Wheldon and its reported Wheldon well take over Vitor's spot at Panther racing since its also reported that Mike Conway of GP2 or former F1 driver Anthony Davidson are going to duel for the second seat. Maybe Vitor well battle as well? Maybe Panther might forget Conway and The Ant and keep Vitor...who knows...

In other Indycar news former F1 driver Robert Doornbos has also reported he has signed to race in Indycar and Chip Ganassi well support a third car for Alex Lloyd - sponsor pending.

I think the '09 Indycar season is starting to look very very interesting. Former F1 drivers, Dario is back, and the former Champ Car teams well be ready for '09 unlike '08. I hope the Versus well have a kick butt announcement team unlike ESPN/ABC and everything well be complete...oh yeah change the schedule and give us turbos and a new chassis...:p....Can't wait for 2011.

IRL needs to find a title sponsor or the will flop like Champ Car did.

Juan Pablo Montoya still has not proven anything in NASCAR. Scott Speed still has to prove himself also.

There are only a handful of open wheel guys to make it big in NASCAR. Foyt, Mario Andretti, Tony Stewart (very limited time in IRL), Gurney and there is one more but I cannot remember.

JPM is suffering on sponsorship for next season. Stewart is going to struggle bad next year as well with his new team, he has one car not sponsored as well.

Motorsports are going to be tough the next year or two for alot of guys.

I agree and there are rumors about Citibank or Subway but tht has yet to progress in any fashion.

I don't know. He earns praises from everyone on the media table and from the drivers themselves. He's a victim of being on a mid level team and that's it. It the same for guys like his teammate Reed and guys like Ryan Newman. Put him on a Hendrick or JGR team and let him shine - and he will shine.

I personally think Speed has shown a lot of promise. He ran in trucks twice this year and won once and finished 3rd the other. To go into a series and do that well shows promise. In ARCA he's leading in points I believe (or is in the top 3) and has a number of wins. I still don't understand why he didn't get a shot in the Nationwide yet - does RBR have a team in there?

How about AJ who also runs Cup and did well last week and is improving time after time. Ryan Newman also came from open wheel and won Daytona this year. Many consider Jeff Gordan an open wheel guy and I think Jeff Gordan would agree and was headed to the IRL before NASCAR picked him up. Robby Gordan also came from CART and has a long time in NASCAR. There's actually a large number of open guys who made it to NASCAR and did well or were there for a large number of years. Casey Mears is also there...the list can go on..

Havoline leaving well hurt. Stewart's team well suffer for a while but I have a feeling it'll take off like many analysis believe.

I hope you're talking about the guys in in the AMA or the World Challenge...they're hurting now and well be hurting for while..:p

Hiti... it's spelled, "will" as in, "Havoline leaving will hurt..." :) Now then, I won't say anymore on the spelling subject; I want to leave well enough alone.

Forgive me.

Dave, with all due respect, sir, I just talked to a writer friend of mine who the guest of ESPN last weekend at California Speedway/AutoClub Speedway for the 500 race there. This fellow has know Dr. Jerry Punch for over a decade (they met at Indianapolis) and says that Punch has the utmost respect for JPM: last season, he took a "6" car and made it an "8" (on a scale of 1 to 10) with his driving alone... this season, the car is a "4"; the team has no money, apparently.

Scott Speed has consistently run up front in Trucks and is leading the points in the ARCA Remax series! He's already won four times already in ARCA, and has won once in the Craftsman Truck Series at Dover... I know, I was surprised myself.

Erin Crocker led the points in the ARCA series and did very well in trucks also. Where is she now?

Juan Pablo has not done anything anywhere but a road course. The Dodge teams are suffering badly but there are alot of guys in Dodges better off in the points than he is currently.

Allmindinger will be looking for a ride next year also. With Red Bull struggling and needing a place to put Scott Speed I think AJ will be the odd man out there. He has run 1000 times better this year that last but will still come up short.

I am not saying the guys cannot drive a car. Hell anyone in NASCAR is 10,000 times the driver I ever will be that is why they are where they are.

I dunno... I never saw her do much in the Truck Series except have her doors sucked off as she got passed.
Maybe we haven't seen her much lately because Ray got tired of throwing money at that hole.
:dunno:

He threw more than money at that hole, if you know what I mean...

Which sucks, because I really liked Erin, I thought she was cute as hell, lol.

Reubens Barrichello might come to IndyCar as well, if his F1 deal doesn’t work out. He’s good friends with Tony Kanaan and would still be getting paid by Honda anyways.

Another note is Porsche is looking into IndyCar racing, again. Something tells me Penske might have a hand in this.

I found it interesting that at the last Race Weekend, the Indycar Pole time and the Daytona Prototype (Or was it LeMans Prototype? Sorry that I forget sometimes) Pole times were SO Close.
It was at Belle Isle If I recall Correctly...
A Porsche-Powered Indycar team doesn't sound that far fetched with the work they've been doing in the various Prototype series.

It was LMP cars that ran a second or two slower then the IndyCars. The DP cars would be much slower.

Also the LMP2 had faster lap times then LMP1 cars because of the tight course.

IndyCar: 1:12.3
LMP1: 1:15.9
LMP2: 1:13.5

Also with IndyCar switching to V6 or I4 Turbo's, I could see Porsche jumping on that one.

Reubens has signed with Honda F1 for another year but after 2009 I could imagine Reubens coming to Indycar if no one wants him in F1. In other F1/Indycar car news former driver and test Anthony Davidson is going to test along side Mike Conway of GP2 for the Panther Racing seat and maybe even battle it out with Vitor Meria for the second seat behind Wheldon.

Doornbos has also said he'll be in Indycar next year which makes the field even more interesting and deep.

As to Porsche, we'll find out in 2010/2011 when the new engines comes out to see how dedicated Porsche is to Indycar.

If you look at other ALMS/Indycar road course comparisons there were some times the ALMS car were quicker then the Indycars. What people don't know is that the ALMS are pretty high tech despite them being a sport car plus they do have the HP/torque to match the Indycars. Plus the weight to power ratio of the LMP2 cars does give them the edge though they don't the HP to compete with the Indy cars.

Yeah, I think the GTP cars were also faster then the CART cars in the Late 80's Early 90's as well.
Sarcasm or truth?

All I can say is in 2011 the engines well change and so well the aero package. Indycar has already said turbo engines and 750 HP. In my opinion I believe 800 would probably better. As Robin Miller said maybe Tony George should allow Honda to up the HP on the present motors - bump them to 750 HP and then maybe I won't be a sleep on the tube during Indycar races all the time.

No it's truth... I believe the GTP cars ran faster at Road America and Mid-Ohio. Mainly because of the Areo advantage Prototypes have over open-wheel cars.

The big key on Horsepower is how fast these cars will be at Indy. Right now the IRL is happy with the speeds of the cars at Indy... but the good thing about having Turbo cars is they can run a lower boost at Indy then they do at Road Courses.

Indy is always the key.
