After lunch today, I swung by a few more dealer lots. I found this at the local Porsche dealer.

2007 Porsche Certified Pre-owned Boxster.
7500 miles
Price reduced to: $33,400

On my quick walk around, I was impressed by the condition. It seems as if new.

boxster S are the only ones worth considering. for the price and year i'd say it's a little high but it will still have it's warranty.

I think that the newer base model Boxsters are comparable to the previous generation of Boxster S.

I think that the price is probably reasonable for the year and mileage. Do you know what all options it has?

If you can swallow the Porsche maintenance pill its worth it. Those cars handle extremely well.

From my RX-8 thread and this one, you should be able to tell I'm getting antsy about a new car. :p And, you can probably tell, I'm more interested in handling than outright speed.

There are several cool cars coming out in the 2010-2011 time frame, so I really should just cool my jets. But…

I'm just playing "what if" scenarios that I thought I'd share with me fellow FJ'rs. Because I know you probably wrestle with the same demons.

The Boxster weighs in under 3K lbs. too, ;) Just sayin'. :D

i will testify that the boxster handles great having driven several porsches, and there are a lot of aftermarket suspension upgrades avail too

For 33k there are other cars I'd rather have... If I were looking at a small convertible I'd have a hard time passing up an S2000 or even a Miata. More reliable, still a ton of fun, and nowhere near the maintenance/insurance cost of the Porsche.

The Porsche's are ALOT more luxury than any S2000 or Miatia. Yes those are both wonderful cars, but not a Porsche.

I almost bought one, but was scurrrred off by the maintence. This one looks beautiful though. Just be sure thought, they are TINY.

Good luck

If thats the price to pay for it now, after 2 years, I would hate to see what you would get when you come to sell it.

With only 7500 miles, to be dropped to that kind of price, I would be asking some questions..... IMO.

For that price, i'd see if you can get a C6 Z06. The C5 Z06's are nice, and there are alot of parts out there. Just start form the high ground though. You can get a nice C6 Z06 (2006) for about 39k. There is about 5k of negotiation in there. So about 34k if you walk in from a strong position.

You are never going to get into a C6 Z06 for $34k. Maybe $44k. I looked and absolutely would've bought a C6 Z06 if it were in that price range. However, a C6 Z06 isn't that much better of a car than the C5 to warrant a $25-30k difference in price. Cam only and you're as fast as the C6, heads/cam and you're faster than the C6 with pretty comparable overall handling. You're basically paying a big pile of money for slightly nicer seats and stereo. Exterior styling is subjective, of course, but other than the headlights and door handles, I prefer the C5 lines to the C6.
