design work request (tattoo)

As many of you know my wife and i just had a daughter, mila.

As many of you know i am also very much "into" reptiles, especially snakes, and of those, especially constrictors.

therefore i was going to get a tattoo to commemorate and be a symbol of protection, if you will, on my right arm. This will have to be above the t-shirt line for work purposes but will continue slightly onto the shoulder.

I am thinking of something along the lines of a burmese python (gorgeous animals) with potentially clutching one egg, representing my daughter.

The image will be black and white, (shading, etc, but no color for now) and maybe 6-8" high by whatever wide, i just need to be able to almost all the way cover it with a t-shirt.

Reference pictures:

Here is how they clutch, also a good look at scale design and body coloration:

and finally what i was thinking for body layout:

something like this, where the tail would be sort of clutching one single egg (with the possibility to add more if we have more kids, and the neck would be slightly more kinked, like to strike if anyone hurts the family.

all ideas and comments welcome, obviously, this is in the planning stage.

:D

Re: design work request

That'd be great man. I went to the tattoo place last weekend to discuss the ideas with the artist (who is really really good some of his work looked REAL) and he was excited about this idea. He liked the detail he could put into the scales, the color variation (gonna be a grayscale design, btw) and all that.

Re: design work request

Why not just have the tattoo artist draw it up himself? People on other boards I frequent often come asking for help, wanting someone to draw up a complicated tattoo...and I just dont get it.

I say leave it up to the guy who'll actually be putting it on your body. If he's really a talented artist he should be better equipped to design it to fit your body and give it the detail it deserves.

Re: design work request

While a few tatoo artists (actually very few) can come up with really good designs on the spot, there is nothing wrong with someone spending sometime getting to know a design and contemplating whether they want to live with it or not. Once demon has his design worked out, he can hang it on his mirror and look at it every morning. he might be inspired to tweak it after studying it for a few days.

many tattoo artists love nothing more than to just be able to trace and color.

Re: design work request

FiveDoor - i am fully capable of designing this myself but i want to get as many ideas from all spheres of design.

Evan - The artist i picked i think i'm going to stick with. He's VERY skilled with detail and realism (some of his work wowed me. yes, me.) and not to mention he's excited about this as he's wanted to put the detail into the scales of a reptile for a long time. the variations in shading, etc etc.

sicko - that's the idea. it's gonna get placed next to my monitor at home and work for a few weeks.

Re: design work request

anyone have any other good pics? we're going to do the design on the fly but need good reference pictures.

the shape and style of the tattoo concept have not changed, i'm still in favor of everything we laid out but since it's going to be drawn on the skin on the fly and detailed in (the guy is REALLY good) i want as many good photos as possible.

Re: design work request

OK, I changed just about everything you said. Are you ready to "go big or go home"?

egg(s) would be on the left side of your chest, over your heart, the snake would be wrapped around those as well as your arm for support and strength, then would have its head watching your back.

Re: design work request

Plan B - i'm going with a natural (no morph) burmese design

Sicko - that is sick. truly, but i think might be a bit "much". i'll print that out and show it to phil later this week (phil is the guy doing the work)

and i'm not that muscular. :)

I know it is way more than you were planning but its just what came to mind.

I'm not too sure about the tail wrapping the clav. the other option would be to have it curl on top of the shoulder.

On a side note, don't know if you mentioned it, maybe leave space for 2 or more eggs in case you have more kids?

#21 ·
actually that's already been discussed! i'm going to tint her egg lavender, and maybe put MLC in small letters on it.

Sicko - you crazy bastard that looks amazing. (this will be left shoulder however) and you even made the head cover up a small dragon that i'm going to be covering up anyway!

i will print those out and show phil.

Ray I really like Sicko's idea, and I think it would fit u very well... Just my .02

Well sicko's idea is VERY close to what we had planned but obviously more ink covering more of my body. My concern is that i do have hair on my chest and i dont want to shave my chest, so it might look a little odd with that. plus in many years (i hope), my boobs will probably sag with age. i cant always be as lean as i am now, although that is probably a good chance that i will. then again, by then i wont give two ****s anyway...
