i know i am and theres probably plenty of you out there also that are disapointed with the way ford brought out the svt to be not that well pumped up from the normal focus. would have liked to see it be like the new neon srt-4. but oh well. ford should have steeda or saleen make the next focus.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">what have either of these companies made for the Focus, performance-wise, that makes you say this?

the SVTf was meant to compete against the Civic Si, the Sentra V-Spec, etc etc, all those cars around the 160-170hp mark. not WRX's and SRT-4's.

Don't worry about the slow SVT Focus. It wasn't meant to be fast, just relatively quick. Or....just buy the SRT-4. It is quite impressive in the performance department. Not so impressive in the looks (subjective)department.

Be glad you never bought the SVT Focus and then realized that it was a slow car. There appears to be several SVT Focus owners upset their cars are so slow. Maybe they never read most of the road tests of car running around 15.9 in the 1/4. I just can't understand all the hate about the car being slow (from owners) when the facts are in print where God and everybody can see. Hopefully this post will prevent another uninformed consumer from purchasing a slow SVT Focus.

Vote #2: Not that well pumped up? Better sound system, better interior, better transmission, 30 more HP, better rims, better tires, better exhaust, better intake system, better options, better damn pedals and better damn ground effects, I am forgeting better SOMETHING but there is a DRASTIC difference between the SVT and zx3, whether you see it or not.

Better Tranny? Hardly. I'll take the lighter, more compact, closer spaced 5 speed with a cheap Quaife anyday.

Better Ground effects?
Maybe I missed something.... does the SVT have venturis on the floorpan? No? Oh, ok, NEITHER car have ANY "ground effects".

As for the rest of it, yes, kill it, there are a million posts like this already. We all know it's not a street terror. If you bought it thinking it was... well that's your problem, you should have done a little more research instead of just buying into all the marketting BS. At the price you can buy one of them for these days, it's a nice package.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">actually the svt rear is better for dragging. a little. not a lot, but if you're dragging, you'd like that big mesh

Vote # 3.... I've said it numerous times, I think it is possible that SVT might have been a little short sighted with this offering... but the car is still just NICE!!!!

These threads have got to stop!

askjeffro, I only mentioned the 1/4 mile aspect because most of the time I feel it is the only thing people on this board care about. So, I was saying if that is their want, then I would pick the SRT-4 at this point in time as well.

I look for a more balanced performance in a car. I haven't driven the SRT-4 yet. I hope to get a chance soon. I do think that a lot of the mystic of this car is clouded by the output numbers.

Don't get me wrong, it may be fantastic car, and while I do read magazine reviews... I also like to draw my own conclusions.

If the Special Vehicle Team is given the resources (i.e. money) to out do the SRT-4 then I'm sure they will. Having met several members of the team I know they are hardcore car guys. But, this is business, and I would assume that the Ford bean counters will require a strong business case.

The sport compact market is not a fad, so let's just hope that the people that control the purse strings at Ford give the SVT guys and gals what they need to compete and then stay out of their way.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">You know the question of the day will be,"can they keep it under $20K." I sure hope so. If they can i will be SVTs next customer.

Yeah thats the interesting thing...theres people around here who would like to see AWD on the new SVT which would make it more expesive without a doubt. The interesting thing to consider is that Mazada is looking at doing a 2.3L with a Turbo on the Mazada3 or 6, cuts down on the costs of development of a new engine. Should be interesting how things play out

Holy Crap! Enough already! If you want to buy a car RIGHT NOW strictly to run the quarter mile then GO BUY AN SRT-4... end of story!

The car industry is like the computer industry, constantly in flux. Pick any point in the timeline and someone will have the best, fastest, etc. product.

When the SVTF was released the SRT-4 was NOT available. OK, now it is. That's the idea... to one-up the "other guy".

There are parts of the SRT-4 (the HP, duh) that make it desireable. Will Ford simply roll over and die? I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

I like debates about the Pros/Cons of cars but jeez these "the SVTF might as well be taken off the market because it can't compete" threads are wearing on my nerves.

Dodge just entered the sport compact fray, in a serious way. I don't think Ford spent millions of dollars to develop the SVTF just to give up once another company developed a car that dynos higher. If that were the case we would have never had the Mustang vs. Camaro battle that lasted for DECADES.

The SVTF's mission was to unseat the Honda Civic Si as the best sport compact. It accomplished that mission. But today's market moves at the speed of light.

The SRT-4's mission, in my guesstimate, was to talk some serious smack toward the SVTF. It succeeds. But, I'm sure the SVTF team has taken that as a challenge.

We, as car enthusiasts, benefit from these battles for supremacy. We will be treated to a long line of insane cars from which to choose. Be happy.

I say this thread should stay open. Just because there are countless threads like this in the past does not mean this thread has to be locked. This thread is good for a discussion (wrcfan's and P-51's posts are good examples).

If you feel offended that someone is talking down on the SVT Focus, then just don't read it.

It is been a while that FJ had a thread like this. Let's just leave this thread as it is (not locking it) and see how it goes. If it does get out of hand, then the powers that be can do their job and lock/delete it.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I totally agree with rest of your post, however this part caught my attention.

The facts (according to the magazines) is that the SRT4 out handles the SVTF as well, it's not just a 1/4 mile monster, ala mustang.

The amazing thing is the car handles great and goes really fast too. Something the SVTF doesn't do quite as well.

The kicker to me is that this car is only $800 dollars more. Someone said that the SVTF and Civic Si were competitors, where as the WRX was competing with the SRT4. I disagree. While performance wise this may be true, the the MSRP price of the cars dictates otherwise.

I hope SVT and Ford are hard at work to create a competitor. If not, they need to drop the price of the SVTF, that's a reality Ford needs to accept. As I've said before, the Focus's good looks only carry it so far. I personally despise Neon's, but I'm also not a moron. If I were in the market for a car in that price range I would have to buy the neon no question. (save the fact if reliability issues become a problem.)
