From MPH-Online.com:

During the much critiqued "Way Forward" speeches by Ford early this week, executives stood between two clay sculptures of the Reflex Concept from this year's Detroit Auto Show and the Fairlane Concept from the 2005 Detroit Show. This would make one believe both of these vehicles are headed for production. There are other whispers that the Fairlane will replace traditional Ford minivans and run on the same platform as the Freestyle. Yet more quietly whispered was word that Ford might indeed import the much lauded European Focus to the United States to replace the positively ancient U.S. Focus.

yes yes...i believe it, but like the FocusRS thoughts of actually importing it will be far after the novelty of the focus in europe wares...

let's face it, we got the focus...but only have it was introduced in europe. the fusion/milan craze right now is one of the best things ford has done, a car aimed for the US, not simply brought over well past the time it would be hot.

tho the novelty will be fresh and exciting for here, not trying to rain on any parade because i want one just as much. Just saying they won't be bringing it here for some time, well after the rage for the new C30 dies down, because then they can have a parts bin party.

undoubetly this thread will conitinue tho with post after post of people thinking this will be near immediate...like the thoughts of petitions, position letters, and requests before

Believe it when I see it. Only way it would make sense for Ford to do this is if they brought over the C-Max and built the Escape off the C1 platform also, in addition to the Focus.

Don't Hold Your Breath...

I can tell you that I have heard from a very reliable source that this will never happen.

Again a very reliable source.

If anything, its brainstorming and nothing more.

I suppose that there could be an eventual change of heart but not for years and by then, there will be a new platform and everyone will bitch about whey we get the old C1 while Europe gets the "new improved model"!

It all depends about how much of a panic mode Ford corporate is in to turnaround the company. If they feel they are in dire enough straights they can make anything happen and fairly quickly... and by that I mean '09-10 timeline.

Hopefully this latest "plan" has some teeth and Ford will do some radical things to stem the tide. The phase "small cars" was used several times in the speech so they may be having a sea change at the top levels of the company... maybe even beyond your source, which is pretty good from what I understand. ;)

My thought has always been, why not keep the C170 for the Ford Focus and bring the C1 euro Focus here as the Mercury Capri? ...pricing issues avoided. :D

Imagine the Focus ST as the Capri RS! Now, THAT would bring younger buyers into Mercury showrooms!

But why muddy the waters with Mercury...they are just Tarted up Fords for the most part. I don't think a business case can be made to have C1 ST sold in Mercury's showroom, it doesn't jive with their purpose in Ford's grand scheme of things.

Its an idea though...

And i'm more willing to believe that the C1 will come over in some form in 2010 or so, but by then hopefully most of the people who visit here will move on to bigger in better things...at least I would hope so :p

haha i just love the news lately...

first its a show promoter, ya kno the guy who gets paid to read the same lines everyday to display the vehicle, telling the public "we will have a Shelby GT500KR"...a very reliable source

then the mentioning of this, which i also agree is substantial...but substantial brainstorming...the first thing in a long time that Ford has done right with its cars is the Fusion/Milan/Zephyr

..this will take a long time

i'm definatly not holding my breath. and you people can be all excited about it that you want but you better understand and better belive that they will butcher the **** out of this car IF it ever gets here. i mean it will be cheap, lesser parts everywhere and you better belive the parts are going to be crap.

more or less i'm saying that it's going to be a newer focus where the wheels will fall off after a thousand miles on the odometer

Well, obviously Ford's "grand scheme of things" is not working too well. ;) To quote Apple, "think different". :D

Lets hope this is more then a rumor and becomes a fact.

The only way it would work is if Ford had a new small car to take over the Focus' current spot in the line up. Who knows when that will happen.

I don't know if I like Ford's tactics with the way forward plan. They are only hinting at the postive aspects of the program, and being downright blunt about the negative aspects. They really need to put a positive spin on things by building up some hype on upcoming models. Till then, all anyone is thinking about are plant closures and layoffs.

Like for example for the new small car line up would be the ford fiesta, I herd its comming in 2008 or so. If ford ever broght over the Streetka that would be bad ass. But Ive always woundered why ford hasnt put a Ka brand or Fiesta brand in canada and only mexico?

Thats a GREAT idea! Bring the entire Ford of Europe line over to the US untouched and call it Mercury!

Then suddenly you'll see Mercury suddenly start outselling Ford....

Honestly... the European ST is probably going to be the only hatchback I'd ever want to drive.

I've never been into hatchbacks... but I like the looks of the new Euro model. I just wish they'd give us the Australian Falcon...

If it was that easy, you think they would have done it by now?

Two different automotive worlds...the US market and the European Market...our market is made of disposible "appliance" type cars that are used every day to do what we need to get done. In Europe a Car is more or less a Luxury and not a "right" as many people think it is here...
