Hey everyone,

I have received approval from the Focus Challenge to begin working on scheduling a date on the "East Coast" for a Redline Track Event/Focus Challenge.

Being that we at Redline are not familiar with East Coast facilities, I would like to hear feedback and suggestions on which track we should schedule an event at. Please provide alternate facilities just in case we are unable to secure a date. I understand that it can be pretty expensive to rent tracks back east, so also let me know what your price limit would be for a one day and a two day event.

We will of course attempt to secure a weekend to make it easier for everyone. However, due to the shortened operating year (weather) Im sure many of the "good" weekends are already secured.

Running an east coast event is a goal of Redlines and we would LOVE to have it be supported by a Focus Challenge event. Realistically, this is probably the only way we can pull it off.

So again, please post suggestions and feedback on what facilities you would like to see a Focus Challenge run at. We will need to secure the date ASAP if we have any shot at getting a weekend.

vir full would probably be impossible but vir north or south are good focus tracks. summit point is fairly central.the glen is too expensive. beaverun might be the best bet. the facilities are crude, but rental is reasonable. midweek runs about 6500 (tue thru thur) including insurance, saftey and flaggers.

^^^^^^What he said. I think Beaverun might be the most cost effective option and should have the most room in the schedule.

As far as location, what's the most central track to all of us? Summit Point?

I'm closest to Summit point at two hours drive with BeaveRun comming in second at four hours drive.

First: WOOOHOOO! Very cool, Nik. Very cool indeed.

I'll second the 'any track' notion, tho it seems like Summit Point might be the most central to East coasters. It's a fun track to drive, but it's in marginal shape at best. It's also frequently booked.

BeaveRun might be the better bet, for cheapness and availability -- and it's a little easier for Ohio/Michigan folks, and even some of Ontario. It's an okay track, a little short, but the surface is in *way* better shape than Summit.

VIR and Watkins Glen would get my first votes, just for the sheer manliness of both. They're both far and expensive, but could be worth it to me.

Lime Rock is closest to me, though I'm in the minority. Damn you midlantic types...

Price-wise, I'd be hoping for the standard $150-$200 per day, but that is flexible depending on 'extras,' or lack thereof.

But basically, I'll pretty much be there no matter what...

one important note-if summit point offers a date on the shenandoah track-DONT TAKE IT-they have been promising that it would be open for the last 2 years. also it looks to be a very dangerous track.
Definitely not Shennandoah Circuit at Summit Point. Took a look at it last weekend - no runoff room and concrete walls

Don't forget "The Beltway". I wonder what a good lap time on that is.
I think I did the whole thing in about 4h 27min, once. There was a tailwind the whole way around...

EDIT:

Alllriiiiight... And back on-t, gary brings up another cool thing about Jefferson: running in both directions is pretty fun.

Okay,

I called and got the information for BeaveRun in Pennsylvania. Preliminary pricing would put the cost of both Saturday and Sunday at $300-$350 for both days total. We have an opportunity to get a mid May weekend as well.

Next up, VIR.... what track layout would you guys want to run? Full Course, South, North?

full is a tough shot at vir. also pricey. the only way to get full would likely be in very early or late in the year. south is a great course. north would be my 2nd choice. patriot is a maybe, but it would limit how many cars we could run. it is the cheapest track at vir to rent.

I called VIR and the person responsible for Track Rental communication is out of the office today. I hope to speak with her tomorrow.

I will get all of the pricing info and post here what it would cost to run the various tracks at VIR. That way the participants can choose what is too costly and what is not.

We will want to get FocalJet (Ron) involved in this event and I am considering inviting the SVTOA to the event as well. To make this event financially viable we will need at least 60 cars to participate in order to keep prices as low as possible.

San Diego, Orange county, Los Angeles, Ontario...

But honestly all of us So Cal folks (if enough decide to go), could all leave at any one of those airports together.

Id probably try and go. Not sure if I'd drive a rental or not. But it would be cool to ride along, and take pics.
