hey boys and girls, well, when the shop finally got my car up to some high RPMS they dynoed it at 163hp. I have the jrsc, 2.6 pulley, vibrant exhaust, 65mm tb, and ported s/c inlet. i forget the torque as we didnt print it off. anyway the car runs like CRAP, my car is running EXTREMELY rich and we dont know why. the car blows black out the exhaust and got worse through most of the day. we changed to some ford motorsport 1 step colder plugs that were gapped down. replaced the EGR gasket, and checked all the connections. but hey, nothin goes right for me so nothing new. calling jackson racing monday as they have no weekend hours

.
The car was dynoed today after putting new wires on because i had a bad spark. dynoed at the stated numbers in the subject line. Ill put a picture of the dyno sheet on here if someone can help me. As you will see the car has a major stumble starting at 4K RPM but then recovers. what could fix this stumble?

Re: 163HP JRSC

Sounds like a problem we had with an SVT lightning. Turned out being very very very bad cats. A 01 Lightning with mass air flow, flip chip, bassani exhaust, intake, single blade throttle body and a 4lb pulley putting out 280hp

.... Turned out being the cats. Got it fixed and dynoed at 520ish

could be what you have on a smaller level

Re: 163HP JRSC

I really woudldnt think a 2.6 pulley is too much for the black box. 2.3 definately, but many run black box and 2.6. anway thanks for the advice, hopefully it's something stupid that we are overlooking. hopefully some experienced installers could chime in and help me out?!

Re: 163HP JRSC

Sounds like you need a MIC setup. You need to ditch that black box! Car isnt going to run good with that black box and a 2.6 pully.
its got nothing to do with that

something is wrong with the installation, whether it be they hooked the black box up wrong or there is a vacuume leak or something they might have touched with the plug wires and not put back properly

Re: 163HP JRSC

fuel made a sharp downward line to rich whenever boost started goin. very sharp line

Re: 163HP JRSC

Me and dan-d both have/had that exact same problem. After i got the chip in there everything was 100% fine. I emailed ocsar jackson about it and was told the black box is only good for up to 5lbs of boost, and anything other then the stock pulley timining needs to be addressed.

Re: 163HP JRSC

I am consistantly at 7psi, just for procautionary measures ill have them throw the stock pulley on and see what happens. they installed it right away with the 2.6 at my request. this exact kit ran on another focus with 2.6 pulley, so i dont see why mine would be diff.

Re: 163HP JRSC

Yeah, I think most of us who have gone with the 2.6" pulley and are still using the black box are having som fuel related issues. Mine doesn't seem to be as severe as some. Mine runs pretty well except that it gets very rich the 3k-4k RMP range, everywhere else is fine, the car dynoed at 174.6 HP. I'm still running my stock ECU and fuel system.

Re: 163HP JRSC

this is my little check list of things for the shop:

1) undid plug wires/anything with ignition?
2) plug wires on tight?
3) in right order?
4) put stock pulley on?
5) unhook black box wires, undo vaccum hose and plug it up.

the last 2 will tell if either the box is or the pulley is the prob.

anything else to add to the list? i dont have a MIC at my disposal to try it out

Re: 163HP JRSC

engine was throwing a bad TPS code. going to try that and see what happens

Re: 163HP JRSC

just to fully document my problems for someone else that may need this thread in the future. the TPS was replaced and the only thing it did as the CEL stayed off. we have spoken with jackson racing and they said the only way to test it was have us send it to them and they wait for it. all the connections are being soldered together to make sure the connections are solid. we bypassed the black box and the car ran well except it was really lean. Jackson racing said the 2.6 pulley shouldnt makde a difference, but it could. i guess i will be getting a loaner if this soldering doesnt work so i can send the box in. I have a feeling jackson racing would be a lot more helpful if I was the original purchaser of the kit. they want to charge me 350 for a new box, were they would give the origional purchaser one. ill keep updating, hopefully there will be a positive outcome someday

Re: 163HP JRSC

so the car runs better, idles normal and is fine for normal driving. turns out a bad plug wire was the cause of that. there is still a huge stumble at 4K RPM that i can show everyone if someone helps me with putting a picture on here.

Re: 163HP JRSC

ya, that stumble is the richiness that dan and nick had issues with, glad to see you solved your problem.

Re: 163HP JRSC

Is there anyone around who can do some datalogging for you? I'd love to see A/F ratio, MAF voltage or flow, rpm, and injector pulse width.

I'm not real familiar with the black box but what you describe could be an air leak, i.e. pressurized air getting blown past a gasket or something. It could also just be a tuning issue. It's very hard to diagnose without some kind of data.

Re: 163HP JRSC

yes and no, i have the inlet to the s/c ported to 65mm, 65mm tb, custom intake, 2.6 pulley, and then exhaust. do that and you should get somewhere around there. i think the stock jrsc puts down like 150s hp, and you can get the jrsc for around 2700$ from a few sites.

Re: 163HP JRSC

there is a link to my imagestation on the first post of the thread.

I took the 2.6 pulley off and car runs great. screams too. havent decided on if im gonna spend the money and get the tuning for the 2.6. may just be done with the s/c and move on to different parts of the car.
