hey guys, i just had to replace my egt tube. i was going to have ford fix it, but they said emmissions is not covered by powertrain warranty, and it would cost me 220 to have it replaced.
well i just replaced it myself
how-To:
1. remove intake, entire thing.
2. remove battery, and battery tray
3. pop both vaccuum hoses off of EGR Tube
one hose is longer, and bigger then the other, so its easy to put them back on right
4. take a crescent wrench, undo the "nut" on the back side of the Egr tube
5. remove nuts that hold the flange to the exhaust header.
4. snake EGR tube out.(takes a little bit of working and twisting, but itll come out)
6. install new EGR Tube by replacing all bolts, and nut where they go
7. re-install vaccuum lines
8. reinstall battery tray, battery, and intake. make sure no loose ends, and fire her up.

souns kinda like an angry lawn mower when you blow the EGR Tube out.

Hi Folks,

New to this Forum. My '01 SE 2.0L split port just had it's EGR tube
break right at the flange with two studs. Loud as all get out, sounds like an old Pinto.
I tried several "epoxy" repair that failed.
How much and where did you buy yours Bryan.

Thx, Marco

60 something bux from Ford or find somebody that can weld it.

In the interim you can quiet it by plugging the hole with a penny pinched between the flange and manifold. You might also want to to plug the broken end of the EGR tube with something also so you don't get unfiltered air into your intake manifold.

Welcome to the club....aparrently this happens frequently. It happened to me. :)
Yep...happened to me too.

Strangely enough we just put a door hinge on it when we changed it out to the FC Shorty Header.

:lmao:

Pic is coming.....

My girlfriend has a 2000 SPI and hers broke about 2 months ago, it was a simple fix.

I took off the intake, disconnected the tube from the EGR and from the header, then used a MIG welder to patch it up and she was good as new.

I, on the other hand, had the glowing red hot EGR tube sitting on the workbench only to turn around and burn the first couple layers of skin off my arm.

I well just did not put mine back on when I put the header on and the computer don't even care about it or the bad DPEF sensor. It actually started running better when I did that. I must have found a way to bypass it completly and it not care.

Mine just broke about a month ago.I plugged the hole on the manifold with a bolt and some washers.Problem is ever since, its been clattering really badly, and the engine light came on the other day.I wanted to know if someone could tell me exactly where I should get just the tube, not the valve, and exactly what I would call it,because I have tried to order it from ford as the egr tube, and they act like I have lost my mind, any help would be great...Thanks

I know this is an old thread. I was reading through, looking for info about the EGR Tube, and found this. I have the exact same problem that everyone else seems to have. I have to drive 3000 miles with the EGR tube leaking at the manifold - is htis gonna cause any problems, is it bad? What would happen if the tube popped off?

ya, that crap is lame. 80 bucks for the tube from ford. you have to take out the intake, but taking out the battery isnt necessary.

i replaced the tube, changed spark plugs with bosch fusion (iridium and platinum fusion) and focussport wires, cleaned the maf, dropped a k&n in there, and now i am getting 30MPG!!! I was getting 21 before! So much smoother, no exhaust smell, drives almost like new. Will get air conditioning fixed soon.

everyone that has listed what they paid for a new EGR tube is all crazy...Teamfordparts.com has it for $45.58. this guy that runs that parts dept has been a long time supporter of the contour and focus and has links to his store on fordcontour.org. get a new gasket as well and this takes like 10 mins to swap out. the only thing that needs to come out is the intake tube. use a 1 1/16th wrench to get the tube out of the valve and a 10mm socket to take off the other 2 bolts on the manifold.

You say I can replace the EGR tube for under 50 bucks? I went to the site you suggested and it says "EGR valve, focus, sohc" or "EGR valve, focus, dohc" Anyone know what the difference is?

I am in no means a mechanic...lol. Just a girl trying to get her car fixed for less than the $250 estimate!

I'm so frustrated at this point.... please help!
Thanks!

Looks like the right part, Mine (2000) has just failed for the first time. Rockauto is down to 27.89 for the part anyway, wish they were around for everything I've paid so much for at the dealer in the past.
My one concern looking at both rockauto and Ford, Ford lists a EGR Tube Gasket to go between the tube and the exhaust manifold. I think it's possible the gasket is included with the tube, anyone who's replaced it know anything about a gasket?

Re: spi auto manual swap?

i have been going back and forth about either changing to a fives speed or just saying **** it and completly changing to a dohc 5 speed. opinions any one.:)
wrong thread for that question.
