Hey Guys,

Wanted to show people what we have started doing for our up coming 2009 Eurotuner GP shootout. We wanted to use a car that would showcase many of the products we offer and keep the car cost effective at the same time. So we found a clean high mileage 2001 Golf 1.8T with 5spd transmission.

Here is a list of things we will be doing in the next few months along with some stuff we already started...

-GT28RS turbo upgrade (looking for ~350BHP)
-Eurosport (FMIC), UDP kit, Intake, Exhaust, etc...
-Weight reduction (~2400 - 2500lbs)
-Carbon fiber hood & lightweight relocated battery
-H&R coil-over suspension
-Eurosport camber plates & stress bars
-Momo race seat w/ harness
-LSD
-Lightweight wheels (Enkei RPF1 17x8)
-etc...

Here are some pics when the car first arrived and some of the progress pics...

Most definitely bookmarked...

I was wondering the same thing. I wonder how fast the car will be with no driver seat or steering wheel :dunno:

This looks like a really cool project though. I'm really looking forward to the build. And I want a GT28RS :(

Lexan.

Needs more lexan.

The new seat will weigh about 25lbs and the steering wheel is about 5lbs. So I'm hoping we only put back in another 30lbs or so. We are still waiting for the lightweight battery, carbon fiber hood and wheels along with a few other items to reduce even more weight.

Me hearts RPF1...good luck guys. I know you guys were getting sort of ripped upon for bringing a Focus to the challenge but show'em that you're also great "Euro" tuners as well.

LOVE IT!

Just wondering why you chose a 4 door and then gut the car? Would not a 2 door be better and lighter/stiffer better?

(I SOooo want to do a project like this.... 4 door, 1.8t OR TDI for crazyness...)

Its VERY nice to see the weight reduction. Just a rule of thumb, saving weight off the tires is worth ALOT more. The rule is 7:1 for rotational weight.

So 10 lbs off each tires is something like this...

10x4 = 40 x 7 = 280 lbs effective weight reduction. Plus the benefits of not putting energy into rotating a heavier mass tires, and also increasing effective spring weight on the suspension.

Anyways good luck

We wanted a 2 door but we got a smokin good deal on this 4 door so we figured why not. As for the wheel & tire weight savings unfortunelty we wont be saving much from stock if any. The stock tires are 205/55/16 We will be using some 245/40/17 so they will much wider.

Hasn't this been done to death?

This was Everyday business at Prestige.

When I first saw the title, I thought it was a 1.8T swap into a focus. I was about to reference the dieselgeek swap.

and FWIW, real men use VR6's. A ton more power with a little practice. ;)

Because nearly 300 whp and probably 250 wtq is not nearly enough

Looking forward to it! Do you mind me asking how you sourced the car? I am thinking of doing a project like this, but can't seem to find a decent car that hasn't been beaten to death by some idiot kid....

anyways good luck

Found it on VWVORTEX.com
We were very patient in finding a car (~6months). Also we purchased it from the original owner and he just used his car for normal commute for the most part. It does have a lot of miles 160,000 but still runs great. Car had some springs and a chip as the only mods and dynoed 170WHP & 210WTQ the way we got it.

Thanks,
Vik
