Since everyone likes to rubberneck:

The day started out here:

Coming around a fast series of corners, to a downhill 90 degree turn, that has a little gravel on the road. I went through, guy behind me went through, Vittoro came in too hot, slid, left rear of the car hit a telephone pole, spun him around backwards and went about 15 feet into a forest. Car is more than totalled.

Excessive driving for conditions, $193, 4 points. Yea, I think he was lucky to get out with a broken tooth. (Only noticeable injury)
Ok,fellows ,here I am .First of all thanx to all of u for good words.Second of all those skid marks r not mine ,'cause my Evo went to the left and those skid marks r going to the right.
I just woke up and this such a sad situation.Believe me,that I wasnt goofing around while I was driving and yes I WAS driving 35-40,because with at least 60 mph I woudnt ended up like that and I would not take a 90 degree corner.2 cars before me pretty much swept all the gravel from inside to the outside of the road and I ended up right there.I am 29 and I am too old to f...k around on a road.I decided that I am done with Evo's
Acutally he ordered another one.

Owner's in the Red Jacket:

They did end up getting to their destination:

Why does it seem that so many of these EVO's are being crashed and totalled. Seriously, every week theres another post. One day they're flying out of car dealerships, the next day they're flying off cliffs on mountain roads...

that's what happens when you don't give awesome cars to North American customers like you do with your customers on other continents.

it's kinda like the argument on having an established drinking age versus raising a child to drink alcohol in moderation. if you don't have it for years, once you can finally get it, you don't know how to handle it

My thoughts exactly. What a bummer. I guess there won't bee too many used EVO's for sale at this rate.

Couldn't be more correct there. I'm glad the turbo 4 awd market doesn't appeal to me, because insurance in that area is going to go absolutely through the roof. The cars all the boy racers want are always like that.
even if we had the great cars...most of these guys have been on the road for 3-4 years (generalization, but prolly mostly true) and think OOOH AWD equals infallibility. It's a combo of a multitude of factors.

Also, the lessons I learned by setting my MINIVAN on teh edge of control are the reasons I can handle most of my friends'much faster, better turning cars better than they can.
This is exactly why supercars/musclecars are going the way of the dodo. [censored] get behind the wheel, wreck them left and right, insurance skyrockets, suddenly nobody can afford them anymore.

it's because people buy these types of cars and think the "beauty of all-wheel drive" allows them to shut off any semblance of commone sense and driving for conditions when they get behind the wheel.

They think that all-wheel drive will save them in all conditions and situations.

Another example of why racing on the streets is not a good idea.

The guy is 29 years old? Well, it appears it is now too late for him to develop anything like common sense.

There go the insurance rates for the rest of us..
Telephone Pole >> HP+AWD Invincibility Complex+Lack of Driving Skill
I think a lot of people are crashing these things is because the forget the first mod they should of invested in is an awd performance driving school.

I know fully well that the EVO has more power than I know how to correctly control and luckily I've been able to control it when it has gotten loose on me. The problem with the EVO is it is so easy to tap into that power and get away with things that you can't do in other cars, including other awd cars, the suspension and steering are absolutely amazing, any one that has driven one on twisty roads will back me up 100%

I don't think this guy did anything wrong to deserve this, except not know how to correctly control an awd car when it starts to drift and then starts to spin. It could happen to me, it could happen to you. There were 6 EVOs driving in a row, he was vehicle #3, if you look at the inside corner of one of those pics, you'll see some gravel on the shoulder. I think it's quite possible that the two cars ahead of him kicked up that gravel more onto the road. The EVO comes with some very sticky tires, as close as you can get to street legal R compound, they only have 160 treadlife rating and tend to wear out for most folks in less than 10K miles. So you can just imagine what happens to a soft tire with some wear, heated up going through corners on asphalt, then hits gravel in a corner where it's already stressing for grip.

I think what's amazing and a testament to some EVO drivers is that the three EVOs behind him didn't crash into him or into each other. That deserves a round of applause.

I don't know if I believe it, but everyone in the group says there speeds where between 35-40 mph.

EVOwned

but i still love em :p!
It's sad to see all these wrecked Evos
Come on guys get some instruction. Join the SCCA and get your ass on the track or something.

I finally saw one on the road and all I can say is DAMN
We saw it on the way back from a camping trip, driving through Big Sur on Highway 1 of all places. For those who don't know Hwy 1 is the ULTIMATE twisty road here in CA.

6 month rate quotes from Progessive.com

Evo= $1379
BMW M3= $1523

These are way off. They also said it was $1200 for my SHO, which I pay $300/6mo for. But it still shows how high the rates are for the Evo/Sti. And from the pics, people seem to be putting thier policies to good use.
