This weekend I'm going to change most if not all of the fluids in my SVTF. This includes, Oil, Gear Oil, Power steering fluid, and brake fluid. All before the 26th of September for a PCA autocross event. I don't have an owners manual for my SVT and the Haynes manual is worthless for looking for crap like that specific to the SVT. So question time, and I didn't use the search button so you can all freak out as much as you want and I sit here and laugh like a giddy school girl.:thumbup:

And I'm buying nothing but the best fluid so if you have a brand or type that you have had a lot of success with please inform me. I want synthetic everything if possible.

Gear oil::
What type?
How much fluid?

Motor oil::
What type?
I'm assuming 5 quarts with a filter change

Power steering::
What type?
How much fluid?

Brake/clutch fluid::
Dot3 I assume
How much fluid?

And can I run this car on regular gas?;)

5 qts castrol fully syn. And filter. 5-20w

1.8 qts mobile 1 fully syn. (ATF) trans

Dot 4 break fluid. Bleed brakes good and top off

PS Motorcraft. Fill lines pump and rack the top off to the line on the resovior

These are my opinion and what I run. I'm happy with it and performs great

Wasn't there a supplement that changed recommended oil to 5W-30? I like Mobil1, but most synthetics are really good. Motorcraft filters are also pretty much the favorites around here.

Lots of debate on trans. fluid, but most people recommend the Ford Honey. Ask Steve from Tousley (FORDSVTPARTS) about it. He's a sponsor on here. Awesome guy.

91 octane gas ONLY. High compression requires it, might get away with mid-grade (89) but spend the extra 10 cents and get the 91+. I run 93, but I live in Texas and have a 93 octane tune.

I run full-syn DOT4 brake fluid.

Haven't done a power steering flush yet, so I have no idea what's in mine.

Gear oil:: 75W-90 Full synthetic manual transmission lube. Royal Purple or Motorcraft. 2.1 qts I believe.

Motor oil:: 5W-30 (not 5W-20 that's economy oil) Full Synthetic. Pick your Brand flavor. I use Amsoil or Mobil1. 5 qts with a filter change.

Power steering:: Automatic Transmission Fluid. Any brand is fine. 3 quarts can flush the entire system and keep the reservoir topped up.

Brake/clutch fluid:: DOT3 or DOT4 brake fluid. I use Amsoil 600 Dot 4. 1 quart can flush the entire system. I prefer to use 2 though.

91 Octane RON+MON/2 minimum. 93 would be better.

tranny fluid: Motorcraft part#XT-M5-QS abou 15$ a qt.
motor oil: sythentic 5W30
brake fluid. I use motorcraft Dot3. high boiling point, and about 7$ a pint. dot 3 or 4 doesnt matter. you can mix and switch.
only use 91octane or higher

Would you guys recommend Royal Purple brands on as much of the stuff as I can get? I like using Royal Purple oil and gear oil but I can't remember the stuff I've used, hence this thread lol. Again thanks guys, you're definitely helping a race car out with this.

Nah, not worth the extra expense, honestly. Mobil1 or any other common brand of synthetic motor oil is great. Some don't like Mobil1 gear oil, I've never used it. Neither have I used RP, but I have used the Ford Honey, it's amazing stuff, feels great, last forever (not literally, but you know what I mean).

I use the mobile 1 fully syn. ATF. Shifts great but that my honest opinion

But everybody is different.

Is amsoil really worth the money?
Seeing as how I'm the only one who has mentioned Amsoil in this thread, I'll respond.

I have my opinions about what is good just like everyone else does. I don't claim that my opinions are better than anyone else's. I use Amsoil for certain fluids because I have had good results with them. I don't use them for everything because I realize that pricey brands aren't worth it for mundane fluid replacement such as power steering or coolant.

I do however claim that my opinions are superior when dealing with bad advice or practice. Your post is a bit vague, but I'm gathering that you use ATF in your transmission. If that is the case, and your transmission is a manual, then you need do some research and correct your serious error in choice of tranny lube. If I'm mistaken though, disregard. ;)

Amsoil does make great products though. I can't think of a single time where I've heard someone bad mouth them.

Gear oil::
What type? ford honey
How much fluid? 2ish filled the tranny when it started coming out the fill I stopped.

Motor oil::
What type? "german castrol" aka 0-30 castrol
I'm assuming 5 quarts with a filter change Yes but that will put it at 1/2 a quart over

Power steering::
What type? Will be red line sythentic power steering fluid when I get the funds
How much fluid? 5 quarts with our machine at work that replaces it while it runs.

Brake/clutch fluid::
Dot3 I assume DOT4 cause I tracked the car
How much fluid? Til it was all bled, bought a big bottle only used about half of it.

And can I run this car on regular gas?;)
bolded my answers

In the past i did some research on the best syn. oil out there, basically it breaks down to:
1. Amsoil (very hard to find)
2. tie between Royal Purple and red line
3. mobile one
4. castrol edge

amsoil, RP and redline use the best base stock.

Red Line is WAAAAAY overrated. Too expensive, too much hype. For the daily driver, you probably don't need anything better than Mobil1, or if it's on sale, Royal Purple. If you can find Amsoil at a good price, that is a top pick. I used to use it in my heavy duty diesel trucks, and run those things 15,000 miles between oil changes, and the oil would come out medium brown and just about the same consistency as it went in. Great stuff. Again, it's probably overkill for a daily driver that sees relatively normal driving conditions, but if your car is on the track a lot, I'd buy it.

I dont think so. cheaper than Royal Purple and just as good. I do agree that Mobile 1 is the best syn choice considering the quality and price. I would just stay away from castrol synthetic (conventional oil is ok). because their old syntech stuff was crap and actually had to pull it because it wasnt what they claimed. Dont know about their new "edge" stuff but after what they did I wouldnt trust it.

ATF in a Getrag :eek: :screwy:

BTW-

Motorcraft 5W30 synthetic blend and an FL-400-S every 3000 miles

The trans will get Ford synthetic trans oil P/N XT-M5-QS when I change the clutch this fall.
