Will the FC trailing arms with the coilover conversion take me out of SM? It states in the rule book that you can utilize any suspension as long as it uses the stock mounting points. The FC trailing arm kit still uses all stock mounting points, except the spring is mounted to the shock. Hmmmmm.

I would say that you are cool with them as the rule is written. As long as attach the suspension with the stock points it's good. People have been known to build some pretty crazy suspensions based on the stock points in mod.

My interpretation is that it is referring to body mounting points. You might want to seek clarification from somebody like Howard Duncan for a second opinion.

EDIT: Ya beat me... What he said.

Hey, while we are on the subject... I penned up a cool IRS setup for an Omni based on some Neon parts... The only problem is that the entire Omni rear suspension is attached at four points with 6 bolts...

If I could make the entire wacky thing bolt to those original bolts, do you think it would be in the spirit of the rule? I really am not fond of the "twist beam" even though it seems to get the job done.

It would definately be in the spirit of the rule. I've been thinking of the same thing for the K-car. I haven't atually taken any measurements but I'm pretty sure it can be done. What I've been mulling over is the weight penalty of building it this way. I know the stock rear axle is freaking heavy but I can't imagine you could do a sub-frame and IRS for less weight. Or maybe you could..... Does the omni have a "track bar" for lack of a better term. It gives you one more point and a good central one on the K-car. I'll have to give this some thought.

so this IS legal??? I was really considering it, it would just mean I couldnt go with the spring/shock set up I wanted

It is legal for SM. That puts you against some REALLY fast cars. Almost any mod is legal, you just have to play with the big boys when you're done.

Its all driver, and of course a well setup car does help a bit too.

The funny thing is the ONLY thing placing me into SM currently is my lack of a back seat.
