Honestly... seeing that there currently only is one focus that rallies on a national level at all right now, and not many are in to rally cross...

I just don't know if this'll fly. But hey its NASA's time and effort, right?

there are actually a pretty decent number of focuses competing at the club level, which is what i reckon this series/idea will be

Now that is definitely something I'm interested in. But since you mentioned Spec, I'm guessing that the setup would be similar to the other Spec series you are talking about......with what, just different suspension? Keep us updated please.

I'll let you know what I find out... But I won't be working with the Rally guys at all. What I'm doing is totally different.

From what I hear from them, is they really want a spec series, something they don't have right now. I guess there's a big call for one.

Who are talking with at NASA rallysport? John Shirley? I would be cook if you guys could work out a spec that would transfer.

Like swap suspension and add skidplates to go rally racing. Interested to see the developments.

I got the word from head officals of NASA... I haven't talked to anyone from Rally Sport.

Interesting. Because looking at their boards the only talk has been about an older spec VW.

And I know of at least 2 Foci that rallied on the east cost so there is an interest. Especially with all the Ford racing parts that can be ordered from england.

This is in the beginning stages of it. Since there will be already a Road Racing Spec Focus Series, they are looking to base it around it.

Just to let everyone know. The Focus Rally Series rules I believe are pretty much done.

I don’t know much about the details on it. But, I have heard that the Suspension they are using is from a Company in England that specializes in Rally Suspensions.

I believe the other parts of the rules are similar to the Spec Focus Series.

The rules and the series will should be announced sometime this month.

Sweet. That this is an interesting development. How does the rule set match up with your road race spec series? Would you be able to build a car to run both series with minimal changes. ie. suspension, skidplates, tires?

I haven't seen the rules yet, but I really don't think you can take a Spec Focus car and turn it into a rally Focus Car.

I wish there was a way to do that, but I don't think you can. I guess it all comes down to what you have to do to the car to make that rally suspension work.

Sweet now all I have to do is find a job back in the US and get my licence converted and I am good. No actually that is great news as I was worried that Rally was on it's way out in NA. Good to hear that it is alive and well.

Alright I will wait for the rules. But I don't really understand why a spec focus car could not easily cross over to spec focus rally class. I doubt they are going to be doing anything exotic on the suspension side to prepare it for rally.

We shall see.

^ Cage attachment points and firewall penetration are going to be a prob, I'd imagine (though I haven't seen either set of rules).

Suspension could be solved by swapping to the respective spec bits.

I assume a skidplate would be required for Rally, yet prohibited for Spec Focus.

Rally cars are typically MUCH HEAVIER than road cars due to the beefy safety features they require.

As for anything "exotic" for Rally... quite frankly they had better. Soo many peeps I see on rallies bust their suspension, and they're using high grade purpose-built suspensions. I can't imageine them trying to slap on some out of the box standard suspension.

(Specially being that Tarmac vs Gravel vs Snow all have totally different suspension setups)
