Very surprised with the results.

The Megane was a lot less powerful and cheaper than the Focus RS, but still beat it on the circuit. It must have very good handling.

An eye opener to see the cheaper WRX and Golf R ahead of the Focus RS too.

Ford need to find a way to get the Focus' power down better!

Golf R and WRX are AWD, that would give them a bit of an advantage off the line at least. And with that much power, I'm sure it helps put it down coming out of a corner. Golf R is probably also underrated from the factory, which VW is notorious for.

That Megane is gorgeous.

And yes, the Focus is a large car.

I'd buy that Megane in a heart beat. I have always liked Renault. Even the craptastic **** boxes they had over here in the 80's got my attention. I wanted to get a Renault Alliance Encore back when I was bagging groceries at a part time job when I was in High School. The problem was, the car didn't move under it's own power and at that time I had 0 automotive experience. Thinking back, I should have done it and at least learned to turn wrenches earlier in life. But instead I bought clothes and music. :(

Nothing like being butt naked and working on a broke down POS in the snow.

BTW the Renault Megane RS250.

A bit odd looking up front, but way sexier than most of the "hot hatches" on the market.

Of course not. That would require making the North American driver safer and not relying on the government to regulate safety systems out the wazoo. Still the need to make vehicles lighter despite the regulations foisted on the population remains. The manufacturers are looking at other areas to do it. Lighter foam seats and light weight materials replacing heavier metals are some of the areas being explored.

Except it should have been. The ST is supposed to be the ultimate all-around car, and the RS is supposed to wreck everything in its class on the track (kinda like the Type R badge used to be). Put a Mk1 FRS next to a Mk2 and it is absolutely nuts how much bigger the new one is. I've been starting to think there won't be an RS for the Focus in the upcoming generation... it's more likely the badge will go on a Fiesta.

I think the only thing I found strange was the price tag they put on the FRS... equating its cost in Euros or GBP to a dollar value isn't representative of what it would have actually cost if it were available here. It probably would have been in the upper 30's, not upper 50's.

My guess is thats a pretty small track.

... and it doesn't list the name.

1 minute times in stock road cars. Any of the higher horsepower cars are going to need some straightaways and whatnot to stretch their legs. Otherwise, a smaller car is probably going to win.

I don't have time to read the article but what's the weight difference and what tires were they using?

No big shock that a smaller lighter car beats a bigger heavier car, go try racing a Caterham 7 some time.
You would love the roads around my neck of woods..in that 7..mate.

But the RS still wins in the sexiness category. There will always be something faster, with more or less horsepower, but the Focus is drop-dead gorgeous.

Current 2010 Renault Clio Campus owner. Not a bad car at all and can toss it around quite well.
