I'm guessing fully custom, you'd probably have to weld on some engine mount brackets. I'm sure axles and all that good stuff wouldn't fit either. But hey if you have a unlimited budget, i say go for it.

 

I'd ask FSWerksTECH. I can pretty much guarantee that he would have the most insight into this, given his background. I doubt he'd approve, but well that's a different story... :lol:

not a VR but the same thing without the huge headaches of trying to fit a VW powerplant into a Ford car

 

The Ford Galaxy ( UK van ) came with a VW VR6 from the factory. It's not that unheard of.

That Ford Galaxy was never a 'real" Ford, it was also called a Seat Alhambra I think. I know the several Galaxy's I rented in Germany for snowboarding trips had a ton of VW parts on them. You could pull almost anything and see the VW or Audi 4 rings on it next to the part numbers.

If I could pull it off, I'd probably do it. I have told Vik a few times that we should grab a Galaxy ECU and harness from a VR6 donor car and slap it in his Corrado. I'd program the **** outta that thing.

 

Some one gave me one(ECU) many years ago and when I was moving back to the US I thew it out.

 

a duratec svt contour 2.5 is a pretty good option to make a vr6-like focus.
its not that easy of a swap AFAIK but still do-able and more realistic for the cash most of us can invest.

 

Was it a Ford ECU or a VW ECU? Just curious since I've never seen one.

 

hah that is funny, my buddy at work also drives vr6 and talked about putting his vr6 into my focus..

 

VW ECU, it was sitting in their basement. My second favorite sport in Germany was going to junk yards (schotplatz) in my spare time.

well..you'd need to rewire everything with the ecu from the vr6, make custom mounts, stuff in a vr6 tranny with custom mounts, and custom driveshafts.

im not an expert so i probably missed something.

 

I would have thought that it'd be a Ford ECU. The dealers wouldn't be able to connect with VW ecus. Hmmm.

Something different. It'd be kind of cool to hear VR6 noises from a Focus... and it has a lot more potential than the Duratec V6.

 

VR's do not have that much if any more potential than a Duratec V6, parts might be more plentiful but there are still limits to how far you can go with them NA. ultimately you will end up in the same dilemma as your would with the Duratec V6... turbo or keep it mild and drivable.
a 3L duratec also makes more power than a VR....

going with the Ford Power plant also means Randy can tune it!

Speaking of which, Randy... want to make a tune for my 2.5L SVT D-tec?

 

A guy in Texas converted several Foci to VW 1.8 turbos a few years back. There is a long thread on it either here or FF maybe around 2003. I'll see if I can come up with the thread. I emailed the guy a few months ago and got a reply. Seems the 1.8T install would be relavent.

uggh custom driveshafts, i dont know im still pretty interested in doing it despite the fact that it sounds like its more trouble then its worth....... a supercharged vr6 focus kinda has a nice ring to it lol
