this is from the blurb on the new mondeo on Insideline:

Gearbox options will include a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic. It is likely that a six-speed double-clutch unit, now under development in a joint venture between Ford and Getrag, will be added when a planned 300-horsepower 2.5-liter five-cylinder ST performance version of the new Mondeo bows in 2008.

I was worried Ford was found flatfooted by the sucess of VW's DSG .. especially in europe this is big news and Automatics (traditional slushboxes) are not very popular there - but DSG and other "robotic" transmissions are gaining traction.

we can only hope that this will make it to NA ... other Gertrag transmisisons did.

EDIT: let me continue my Waa Waa ambulance routine:

Mercury Mondeo
Mercury Mondeo
:D

in other news: hopefuly this will tricle to other models as well.

What's that you say? The C2-based 2009 Ford Focus with 2.3-liter Duratec engine and Getrag DSG? I'll take two, please!

pretty much ... at least we know ford will have the tech.. now we just need to win the battle and get it here in US and in Focus ...

before - it just seemed Ford had nothing in the response to the DSG ..

so polish the pitch forks we have a batthe to fight - to getthe "Ford/Gertrag DSG" in some version of the US C2 Focus. .

I can't think of any product Ford NA has that even deserves a DSG.
which is why we don't have one yet and won't till after 2008...because their isn't anything that deserves it now.

However, the C2 based focus (a la 2010) will be definitely up to par, most likely sporting a factory turbo 5cyl or at least something close to it (possibly a updated 5cyl)

Mondeo vs. Fusion we aren't doing too bad here in the US. But if Ford doesn't offer the dual clutch transmission here you can basically write off the company. They need to give CVTs and slushboxes the heave-ho and use dual clutches in their place everywhere.

Every car model deserves a dual clutch. It isn't just the quick shifts, but also the smoothness of those shifts. Dual clutches are better than slushboxes in every way but won't cost any more to manufacture in high volume. It is a no-brainer. Unfortunately, Ford NA has a tendency to get no-brainers wrong.

especially with the new V6 we just started using...wait till the fusion gets that:evilgrin:

Or simply replace them with standard transmissions with their simple, cheap, and fun SINGLE clutches! :p I know what you are thinking, "but most people want automatics and don't like sticks". Most people just don't know HOW to drive a standard transmission, and they don't want to learn on their own car or are intimidated. A simple fix would be a change in US law that would require the driving test to be done on a manual transmission car like in Europe. Automatics would still be sold, like they still are in Europe, but a much smaller percentage (just the lazy peeps heheh).

No, dude. I said get rid of slushboxes, not get rid of sticks.

I know what you said, I'm saying that all slushboxes shouldn't be replaced with DSGs, some of those should be replaced with sticks. ;)
nobody's a bigger tri-pedalist luddite than me. i'd like to see more people driving manuals, but for the lazy Joe Ordinary cell phone user who occasionally looks at the road, the DSG > slush.

Yeah, I'm just pissy because in Europe 80% of cars are sold with manual transmissions. In America, 4% of cars are sold with manual transmissions. WTF. :what: When it comes to work ethic, trust me, Americans are in general a lot less lazy than most Europeans, so I don't think its just laziness but rather the simple matter of driver training. :) And absolutely, * > slush! :D

CVT > * if the technology is ever adequate for performance.
I strongly disagree.

The CVT takes all the joy out of driving. It is even less involving than a slushbox, far less than a DSG let alone a manual. With a slushbox you still feel some mechanical connection between the engine and the wheels. With a CVT it feels like a slipping clutch. I'm not a fan of slush, but it's still better than a CVT.

DSG > CVT

is this a debate over...

vagina vs. penis or penis vs. vagina?

either way...no matter how it pans out, IT IS how it pans out...:screwy:
