It just happens to be conicenditally timed, IMO. But hey, good news is good news.

I think the fuel issue hit my neighbor across the street. His driveway and garage is always full of pickups and SUVs. The past couple of weeks I've noticed a Cobalt there now.

Hells yes, thats awesome news. But I doubt that it's selling so well soley based on the fact that it gets good gas mileage. There's other cars that get good and better gas mileage than our little Focus.

Anyone have the percentage of Foci sold with Sync? I've wondered how the Sync system is affecting the sales.

LOL look at Jag... thats terrible. Same with Volvo.. the C30 isn't selling at all. That's too bad.

I want to see Focus sales vs. Cobalt/Civic/Corolla/etc sales.... then we'll see how well its doing in the market. Because after driving one, I know I wouldn't buy it.

The C30 is a "sport coupe" with 19/27mpg the fact that it's small is irrelevent. Small fuel efficient cars are selling well. Oddballs like the C30 sit on lots.

I tried looking up Civic sales figure but I kept getting May '07 figures around 39k FWIW.:dunno:

The Corolla outsold the F-series so thats some amount more than 42,973.

The C30 was supposed to bring Volvo out of the dirt and into the minds of young buyers... and they're selling no more C30s than they are XC90s.. Its just sad because I like that car a lot and wanted it to do well.

And as previously posted, the Focus isn't selling nearly as well as the Civic/Corolla... I'm worried that Ford is going to get thick headed and say "Everyone loves the new design!!!" and screw up the new Focus design to incorporate that hideous front end.... when in fact, they're not selling as many small cars as their competitors....

1) additional tidbit - retail, the Focus is best selling FoMoCo product it outsold the F-series

2) Johnny, stop being too pessimistic about Ford - they will NOT - I repeat - NOT prolong the current Focus life by a day - Fields tried to kill it before it was even released, and hated that he had no choice but to release it into the wild .. he wanted C1 the day he saw the 08 Focus - and never changed his mind. The C2 MkIII Focus is coming as fast as they can bring it, and even if the current one started selling 80k units a month - it will not change.

3) while Focus is still behind the Corolla/Civic duo, it is nearly at their 2007 level ... and more importantly it is increasing its retail market share (growing faster than others) - that is all that matters at the end of the day - it is all about steady progress.

I wonder what my number of those 32k mine was? :D

^^Corolla and Civic sold about 35k each in May 2007 (IIRC) - so Focus is slightly belo their 2007 level.

The point with increasing share is that no one else doubled their retail sales (added about 10k units over May 2007) so Focus is gaining share of the compact segment.

all right, all right... I'll back down. Its just that I've gotten my hopes up on preliminary info before here, and I'm really anxious about the EU Fiesta and Focus finally coming here.

but since 2005 (when I have been on FJ) I have not seen a single one of Ron's predictions be changed or missed later ... and he is the one that confirmed MkIII Job1 as April 2010.

Eh, not just Ron, there's other insiders here too that have posted things before.

I do agree though, seems Ford is not going to budge on this. Look at all the market hype they've stirred up on numerous automotive forums already for the Fiesta.

I sure Ford doesn't screw up the Fiesta, it's the basket holding damn near all Ford's eggs.

Of course they've already failed to me in one small respect. I've read in a few places that they aren't going to "cheap out" with their new line of small cars that they are going to offer a car people will want, not just buy on price. Mr. DeLaGarza mentioned re: the upcoming Focus that we will be getteing more but to be prepared to pay for it.

All pic's I've seen of the Fiesta show drum brakes in the rear. In my opinion nothing says "we cheaped out" more than drum brakes on anything made in the 21st century. Why even make drum brakes at all? Oh because they're cheap. Cheap cheap cheap.

To me it says "we really only want IJAC's to buy this".

Ok, thanks I'm off my off topic soapbox.

yes Fords will stop being priced below the Koreans ... right now, the FUSION is 1,500 cheaper than the Mazda3,m $2,000 cheaper than the Civic, and $3,000 cheaper than the Corolla (feature adjusted, per True Delta) - that is incredible ... a mid-size $3,000 cheaper than a compact!! - that will stop.

Expect the Fiesta to be on par with Fit price wise , and like all the other subcompacts - it will have drum brakes - when you are stopping 2,100lbs rear disks are simply an overkill.

actually, he made that comment when someone asked if and when they'd be bringing the euro focus to the united states.

he said that if and when they bring THAT particular focus to the u.s. it would be more expensive, so be prepared to pay for it. he drew parallels to standard lancers (which arent too pricey) vs lancer evos (WAY more expensive)

he was not referring to the standard focus that we have today, or the upcoming focus for next year. i'm pretty sure theyre going to keep the focus at roughly the same entry-level price point indefinitely. i'm thinking if they were to offer a more expensive, tricked out focus, they would offer it in addition to the lower priced models.

I think what you really mean is that when it comes to the cheapskate nature of the average American buyer, rear disks are overkill. ;)

If they were truly overkill, then why has every Focus sold overseas been equipped with them as standard equipment since 1998?

The reality is that they have to go cheap in content, because we're simply not willing to pay more for our cars in the states.

I apparently wasn't clear, when mentioned the upcoming focus I ment the next version, not the gussied up carry over '09 model.

BTW that focus is supposed to be the euro focus, the lower price point will be covered by the Fiesta.

I know it's just my pet peeve about drum brakes. I don't think they belong on any car made after 1970.

BTW EU Honda Jazz has 4 wheel disc brakes. Only for the US does honda use drums, and only on the Fit. Why? because the US has the least sophisticated car buying public in the world that will put up with drums.

Like I said it's my pet peeve.

In Ford's case with our current Focus the euro c170 never had drums. Ford changed the spec to drums for the NA market, again why?

btw in case y'all missed it I hate drum brakes :p

back to topic please, start a drum vs. disk thread to continue my tangent please
