Depends what year. It's a known defect in pre-'02, though Ford doesn't openly admit it. Do a search, you'll find LOTS of info here on it. Although I think most topics are in the TEAM Tech section.

I did and I think I heard about a half of dozen other FJ members having that problem also...
Too bad unlike you, I didn't have the extended warrenty..
Had to pay something like 550 bucks to have it fixed!!!

By the way, how much is it for an extended warrenty? How long does it last and how much does it cover on your car?
Here's another thread that is sorta related to your problem...As you can see there are quiet a few people w/ this problem also..

Another similar thread
Mine went at something like 68k miles, 2001 ZX3. Also covered by the extended warranty, which cost me something like $1750 when I bought the car and is good up to 100k miles. $50 deductable on stuff though.

Serious question: You've been on the Jet for a couple years and you had never heard of the pump problem?
This is new to you?

well no i've the thread on fuel pump but never checked into it.
You should go back in and remove the round filter disc on the bottom of the pump housing before you burn up another pump.
I have an 01 ZX3. With less than 22k miles I had to have mine replaced. I would get to about 1/4 tank and the car would hesatate or die in turns or at stops. The Ford dealer tech stated that the fuel pumps are weak. Warranty covered the new pump, but I had them r/r the fuel filter at that time. Cost $52. This time.
