Fuel system/Injector Cleaners

962 Views 11 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  COSVT03
Ok in most of my other cars i've always put in some kind of this stuff every time i changed my oil and then once a year i used one of those full system cleaners. My question is does anyone else do this and what type/brand are you using on your car? First car i've ever had with this low of miles and i just wana do everything i can for it to make sure it's maintained.

Re: Fuel Injector Cleaners

If you must, use a product called Sea Foam. It is a 100% petroleum base product, and will cause absolutely no harm to gaskets, seals, etc. Just follow the instructions carefully. I believe it is 1/3 in the gas, 1/3 in the crankcase (yes, I know, but it will help everything in there ramin clean), and 1/3 thru a vacuum hose (brake booster line to manifold).
It WILL clean all the carbon deposits (thanks unleaded fuel) from the upper end of the engine!
Re: Fuel Injector Cleaners

I use the same products and I am curious what you are saying Jaybo. Are you saying that the products we use (3000 and 12000mi additives) are worthless?

Your way seems like a lot of work and I just want to know if what I am doing is worthless or not.
Re: Fuel Injector Cleaners

Nobody uses some kind of cleaner in there cars besides me and housoft?! Jaybo, never heard of the Sea Foam before but it sounds more involved than i was thinking/talking about but then maybe that's not a bad thing.
Re: Fuel Injector Cleaners

i use cleaners on a regular basis... although i have never heard of this sea foam you speak of. must look into it.
Re: Fuel Injector Cleaners

Info on Seafoam can be found here. I've used it in the past, and I LOVE the smoke show it does if you run it through a brake booster line! Never used it on my SVT, but it was fun with my F-150! I had someone think I was doing a burnout! Really all the smoke is, or what I was told, is that it's to tell you that it's doing it's job. I have a feeling the stuff gets cought in the catalyst or something, because when I sucked half a bottle through my brake booster line it really didn't smoke. I left my subdivision and floored it... well, I took care of the mosquitos for the next 1/4 mile!

I use Chevron Techron cleaner every oil change. Drop a bottle or 2 in the gas tank.

I've also run Marvel Mystery Oil, but I don't know if it worked or not. Guess that's why it's called Mystery Oil!
It has it's uses, but I don't think I'd pour a quart of oil into my gas tank!

Hmmmm... I'm going to have to get some Seafoam and do a smoke show!

Re: Fuel Injector Cleaners

I like Sea Foam as well! I use it on the boats more.
Re: Fuel Injector Cleaners

I like seafoam but when I run it through my intake I always change the oil afterwards.

Think about it you are washing down the cylinder walls and (trying) to talk off carbon deposits a lot of that stuff (obviously small particles) is going to break down go past the rings and into the oil so you have to rely on the oil filter to actually stop it.

Also you can get the same result from water. warm water when contacted into a hot combustion chamber creates steam and breaks up carbon deposits. Ideally you mix the seafoam 50/50 with water. Best of both worlds.
Re: Fuel Injector Cleaners

I understand what your saying but you ought to be careful saying stuff like that. Some people might not understand and if they add too much water or do it improperly they could damage the engine due to the fact that water is uncompressable. Or can not be compressed...

Re: Fuel Injector Cleaners

very true

*Disclaimer: Please if you have little mechanical knowledge you should not attempt this procedure and major engine failure can occur. Niether FocalJet nor I am responsible for anything harmful you may due to your engine in the process.

Get the car to operating temperature (drive the car for 20 minutes). Now pull the vacuum line from the brake booster and insert a funnel in the line you just pulled off ( it should have vacuum on it now and it should go to the intake ). Use a screwdriver to hold the throttle open to about 3000 rpm I put my screwdriver in between the throttle stop screw and the throttle linkage or you can have a friend hold it there for you. Now hold the funnel upright and start pooring in the 50/50 seafoam/water solution very slowly and poor until it is gone and Bye slowly I mean really slow just small dropd. Rev it up a few times and then do the same to the next can of seafoam/water. Now go drive the piss out of the car.

Congratulations you just steam cleaned your engine. there will be tons of smoke but do not worry it is just doing it is job. the seafoam breaks up the carbon in your engine and the water bakes it away.

you can also use Berrymans Chem-tool to do the same as the seafoam for steaming the engine but as far as adding it to the oil they have a different procedure.

please use common sense a lot does not mean better slow means slow.

Re: Fuel Injector Cleaners

I'm gonna pass on the Sea foam, just because it is too much work. Using injector cleaners and chevyron techron gas seems to be good enough.
Re: Fuel Injector Cleaners

Thanks for the step by step!
I like your little disclaimer. Now when I sue you...you cant be held liable
