Anyone have one of these: http://www.gtechpro.com/index.html
I was thinking about getting one... just to keep myself entertained in the car. $250 almost seems like a good deal for something so sophisticated. It seems like it actually might have some potential use as sort of a poor man's dyno. Give me some thoughts...

Is it nice? Yes, but it is a toy.

Depending on what your wants are there are much better things out there.

Im gonna be the guinea pig and try this one out. Usually Escort makes good stuff and this has all the features that the G-Tech has for the same price. Who knows, it might work better it might be worse, but I like the look of the escort much better. It looks less like a toy I guess is what im saying.

What kind of tuning? Like Dyno tuning? Nothing is going to replace a dyno for that.

For tuning for racing (road racing etc) you need something like the AIM Sports Mychron which is a full data aquisition system for 800 bucks.

Do you think it works for tunning the cam gear?

Its all right. I actually have one for sale that's only been used a few times. Primarily because San Diego really has no good, flat, long, straight roads to take measurements on. Too many hills, and too populated.

On the other hand, its g-force measurements and shift light are great tools for road course videos, because you can later review the videos and actually see whether you were carrying more speed through a corner because you were redlining earlier, ot shifting too early, or things like that. They are also supposed to be releasing a new firmware which will allow you to record 30 minutes of track data at a time, which would be very cool.

Here's a video I did back in March to test this out. In the corners when all 4 lights start to flash, that's at least .90g's. The fast they flash the closer to 1g. And the shift light starts lighting the first led at 6800 rpm and all 4 are lit at 7200.

No, you need consistency to tune the cam gear, and blasting down a street just won't cut it in my eyes. You could probably get a rough tune, but you'll get much better results from paying the $80+ or so for some dyno time.

I have one, it's really very nice. It's not very accurate (with incorrect weight data, it said I had 70hp and 170ft-lbs), but the 1/4 mile times are what I really got it for. So far I've been able to run a 15.37 with it, but I don't know how accurate that is compared to a real strip.

As for tuning a cam gear with it....
