http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/02/report-zeta-based-chevy-g8-police-car-to-be-unveiled-monday/#

We've been telling you about GM's plan to introduce a G8-based cop car for some time, and all evidence points to Monday as the cruiser's official debut at the International Association of Chiefs of Police convention in Denver, CO. While GM has not technically confirmed that the G8 will form the underpinnings of this new police package, the Zeta platform on which the G8 is based is the only RWD one large enough to accommodate a pair of officers and their collars. In other words, we don't expect GM to unveil a Kappa-based Pontiac Solstice police cruiser next week, as cool as that might be. So keep your eyes and ears peeled on Monday. The cops are coming and they'll be driving a G8.
YAY PARTS!

I thought the G8 was dead?

If GM starts stripping these down for sale as fleet vehicles this could be awesome. Ill take a baby blue one with black steelies and blue velour interior please.

^x2. And it would make a great cop car. Seems like a logical next move for police. Sorry, but a 210hp Impala/Malibu isn't overly commanding.

I figured this would only be a matter of time, same as with the Chargers. I think cops in general prefer a V8 rear wheel drive platform.

And wasn't there some talk of the G8 being reskinned as a Chevy something or other?

#16 ·
Yes as the Chevrolet Caprice which in the Middle East is a Rebadged Holden Statesman. I do not see why they would take the Commodore which is the G8 and just reslap it as the Caprice when the Holden Statesman is bigger than the Commodore. The same platform just bigger.

The article states that the CAPRICE idea is dead...

With how GM is right now, doesn't surprise me.

Thats why they're more fit than American Cops

ha funny clicking over the now offer the G8 in Ausi as a special edition! only thing changed is the Pontiac logo is missing!

I guess GM figured they needed some competition to that other dedicated cop car a company was pushing to build.

Too bad here it seams like all the new cop cars are a Prius or Escape hybrid, so unless they get a hybrid version not sure how many i will see on the roads except by state troopers for highway speed traps.

COOL!

The new GM squad is based on the same Holden Statesman RWD platform as the now-discontinued Pontiac G8. It will have a 6.0L V8 engine, producing 355 horsepower and 384 lb.-ft. torque and a six-speed transmission with sport shift calibrations. Standard equipment includes a 2.92 rear axle ratio. A V6 will be available next year. Chevy claims the Caprice will have “segment-leading” top speed and 0-60 times. An electronic “Trap Speed” feature captures the speed when pacing a violator.

Here in Canada a ton of our cop cars are Chargers. They look especially scary when they are the under cover black with little police sirens in the grill. They def intimidate anyone who dare run from them, even tho they are not the SRT 8 engine.

#33 ·
Definitely!

This new Caprice has some excellent power numbers. It's comparable to the Charger units. A bit more torque I think. It's also a slightly larger engine.

Will be interesting to see how Ford responds to the Dodge and Chevy offerings.

Maybe Ford thinks the Taurus is good enough?

The EcoBoost Taurus should have no problem being a police car.

The only real issue it has is the perceived "problems" with not being body-on-frame or RWD only.... and the unibody problem is common to the competitors as well.

I agree that the Taurus wouldn't have any problems serving as a police vehicle.

I'm assuming the EB is only available in the AWD variant. I guess that means that the vast majority, if not all of them will be he turbo AWD cars.

I guess along with the Taurus not being quite as big inside as the other offerings (assumption on my part), I am really interested to see how the boosted motor and AWD components hold up to years of service duty...

Lol ... I said duty...:arr::lol:

When the white stuff falls on the ground up here, the cops that have the EB Taurus Interceptor, will be happy. I've pushed & dug out my share of police cars last winter. High torque RWD is a B-eye, even with a great set of Snow tires (although FWD on summers is worse :().

So will the name change to BigdaddyCopcar?
