Garage heating?

569 Views 12 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  P-51
I am looking for some decent garage heating but I flat out cannot find anything worth while. I am trying to stay away from kerosene because it stinks and requires some ventilation and I don't have gas. In the garage, I only have 110 outlets, no 220... but if I have to get 220, I guess that can be done. Does anyone have any suggestions for a decent electrical heater? Based on everything I've looked at so far, it is looking like I am gonna just end up buying a kerosene heater and dealing with it :-\

have a 2door garage with giant cielings...dont kno the actual height but if i wanted to, i could fit lifts and house 4cars easily...(dream)

but use portable heaters that are my dads from a long long time ago..metal electric ones..and leave them in there for 15mins and i can go work on the car fine

those look about the same (probably different company) as what we had in Anchorage. it warmed our 2 car garage nicely. don't forget to insulate the garage door though.

depending on where you live and how much heat you need do you maybe able to just tap the nearest duct run from your furnace (if that is what your heating system is) and run a small 2inch duct to the wall in the garage.

This would require a fire damper but those are not a big deal.

This will keep the garage warmer but you will not be working in short sleeves in the winter.

The problem with those is that all of the worthwhile ones are gas. I don't have gas.

I gave in and went out and bought a kerosene heater. 60,000 BTUs and I also bought an electronic thermostat and a bottle of stuff to make the kerosene smell like vanilla... lol. Anyway, my garage was sitting about 50 degrees tonight and I ran it for a bit to test it out. I set the thermostat to almost 80 degrees and it heated up enough to turn itself off via the thermostat in just about 10 minutes. This will do, I suppose.

Weekend project: insulation, drywall, and LOTS of lighting.

I just use some 1500W electric heaters. I ran two extra 15Amp circuits, so I have 3 total. Use two heaters. One will keep the garage at a cool 45* easily. Crank them both up and it'll heat it to 70 in a few hours. Not too bad.
