wait, KM's and that means liters, correct? Well, i'm not sure about the conversion, but isn't 3 gallons roughly 6 liters? Hope this helps and somebody will bust out the conversion to help you out.

Yes, the light is supposed to come on when there is about 3 gallons remaining in the fuel tank.

I have a 2001 Ford Focus ZTS, my fuel indicator came on about 5-6 kms ago and I would like to know about how much time(in kms) I have left and approx. the amount of gas in litres that I would be able to put in when I goto fill up....
