Between the 2002 and 2003 models, I've noticed the shift knob on the '02 is more of a brushed look while the '03 is shiny and more of polished look.

Sound silly? probably so, I just had mine replaced by the dealer because mine wore out prematurely. The paint in the numbers was wearing off and the aluminum finish was cracking.

My new knob is shint though, still brushed, like a nickel-satin finish but more polished. I just wonder if Ford made a change or had a knob of better quality installed.

Needless to say I just want to thank Ford for my new polished knob.

You got your sift knob replaced for free under warrenty? My SVT is just over a year old and my shift knob is getting worn out badly.

I took a soft bristle toothbrush and cleaned it like new. No problemo...

It wasn't dirty, the paint actually wore away from the numbers and the finish was cracking.

Cleaning it would have done no good, besides, my car doesn't go three days without being cleaned out, so it never gets dirty in the first place.
