How do you guys get motivated to get in shape?

I'm having trouble just doing it. I keep saying things about starting to run again, and getting back to the gym and i never seam to follow through.

Ideas?

Find something that you love doing. If you hate the gym you'll never go. Try a bit of everything....

Running / jogging
Cycling
P90x
Insanity workout
Swimming
Intramural sports like flag football, soccer, basketball, racquetball. There are tons of adult fun teams you can join.

Or better yet find a friend that's really into something and tag along for a bit. If you don't get excited about something you'll find excuses not to do it. I love cycling, and I actually find excuses to GO cycling lol.

Just remember the feeling that you get when you do work out rather than the feeling of saying you're going to, but then don't. That's enough motivation for me! lol.

Get a bike and ride it, I'm going to start commuting again very soon. I am a fair weather rider but if it's nice I ride.

In 1 1/2 years I went from 242 to 209 and really didn't change my eating habits, over the winter I gained back 15 pounds but it'll be gone in no time.

If I was where you are I'd be on fantastic shape all the time.

Depends what you want and how your market is, I ride vintage steel frame bikes and do all my own work so it keeps the cost way down. In fact I got my main bike off Craigslist being sold for parts as it had been run over by a car.

Now it looks like this,

What city are you in and what's your bike budget?

Well a quick jaunt on craigslist showed that the used bike market ROCKS in Sacramento.

Don't know what size you are, but I found a ton of old bikes that look like they've been kept well. Something like an old 10 speed would be perfect to get started out on. They can be bought cheap, very durable steel frames, and if you want to get something better some time you can usually re-sell for the same amount you paid!

Every vintage bike in Philly area looks like it got hit by a bus. I'm surprised that these bikes are so clean.

Those sizes are all over the place though and that first Nishiki is not going to fit anyone that's 5'10" ever, that thing is really tall, I'd say 6' plus minimum.

The prices do look good though, how tall are you and what's your inseam?

As for condition there's a rather large climate difference between Philly and Sacramento.

Yeah I guess the lack of salt ever hitting roads would make a huge difference. Didn't know the OP's height so I was just looking for decent looking used bikes :)
