I can't believe that it took them this long to figure that out.
This car as been at the Detroit Auto Show as a concept for like two years now.

I think they should of just left the name the same.

GM officials, who declined to be named, said it had been unaware that LaCrosse was a term for self-gratification among teenagers in French-speaking Quebec.
"Where's Billy?"
"Oh he must be busy doing the Buick LaCrosse."

You would think a global company like GM would know what certain words mean in different languages.

nah, Buick can't even BUILD the cars that people under 70 would drive, how can we expect them to name them as well?

It isn't like the term is in widespread use. If GM hadn't said anything about it themselves, no one would have ever known about it.

It would be diffrent if they named it the "Buick JerkOff" or "Buick RubOnOut" or something.
that articles mentions somethign that isn't even true.
Which makes me wonder how true that story is.

I'm sure the fine citizens of LaCrosse, Wisconsin are quite happy that the name of their community constitutes a masturbatory act among the youth of french speaking Quebec.

BTW: LAX is a great community, incidentally. Great pork restaurant at Piggy's on Front.

There's got to be a joke about auto-eroticism in here somewhere.

I think it's pretty stupid to change the name because of a slang meaning. Slang often takes innocuous words and gives them dirty meanings -- if you avoid real words that might get twisted around, all you are left with are meaningless names like 'Integra' and 'Impreza'. I prefer names with some history/meaning behind them. So what if teenagers decided that "the cross" means masturbation? Who's buying these cars, adults or teenage kids?

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some errands to run...I'm off to go look for a 'Hummer'

or a Probe. heheh, Probe.
