so my focus has some minor bolt on's good daily driver.....but it needs to stay reliable as a daily driver.....im looking at some older cars i could use as a project car...and i was somethin not very mainstream.....no civic's or 240 sx's....... maybe like a 1st gen DSM or some kinda ford escort....... i heard like early to mid 90's 'scorts are very very upgradable when it comes to turbo setups etc........ maybde id put a cosworth body kit on it too.....juss an idea....... what do you guys think about these 2 cars and are there any other good kinda project cars .....

1. cheap

2. modifiable

3. large aftermarket

4. under 2 grand for the actual car

im sorta going for the complete package.....street terror/autox and drag car...... so engine and suspension are most important

Do what I'm doing..

1990 something Nissan Sentra. The one I'm working on isn't a SE-R but my bro and I are planning to do a engine swap with a "JDM" SR20DE motor later this year. The prices for Nissan motors are pretty cheap compared to Honda motors and the swap are just as easy (from what I've read).

Plus seriously, besides hardcore tuners, who else would see a Nissan Sentra as a threat mostly if it doesn't have the SE-R badge?

well are u lookin for RWD, FWD, or AWD...all pretty different and all are serious thoughts and point u in the direction of either auto x, drag, and so on..

RWD...i say 280z

AWD...DSM no doubt about it, easy power and handling on a cheap budget

FWD...well for a project car where big numbers are wanted, i wouldn't in my right mind think of gettin FWD

any of the platforms.....if i wanted RWD id think like the 240sx.......AWD 1st gen DSM....im prolly gonna go FWD however as its the cheapest...... most of the time

and im not interested in doing an engine swap as i dont have the resources for that kinda job......

im thinkin a 'scort more and more however..... i need to find a good 'scort site to help me however....

and the power levels i want to acheive arent "out there" im thinkin in the neighborhood of 240 wHP....... in a little car with a stripped interior, etc........... with a nice suspension would be quite a toy to have

If you're looking for a project car, take a look in the For Sale forum, I've got a 97 Thunderbird for sale that would be a great project car.

I'm throwing 2 ideas around in my head...a 1st gen neon w/ an SRT4 swap, or a FWD DSM. The neon would be more expensive no doubt (motor/tranny is about $2500) but more unique. But I can buy fwd dsm's all day for under a grand here that are stock turboed and add $500 and run low 13's. I want FWD because all the racing we do around here is from a roll, usually 45+ and AWD does nothing for me. I'd LOVE to do a 1st gen neon coupe w/ the SRT4 swap, but $$$, thatd be 12's right there though.

na i would definitly suggest a Miata, easy moddable and lightweight chassis, not too mention a hardtop would be sick with a full roll bar...

lotta fun to drive, and lots of different directions you could take

Hehe, do what I just did.

Pontiac Fiero.

I picked up a running, inspected one for $1000. Unfortunately its going to be my daily driver for right now, so I won't be dropping a V6 or V8 in it, but its still a lot of fun. The Duke in it is gutless, but it handles well and corners like a dream

a miata convertible with a full rollcage would look pretty sick! im lookin at them more

i still like the DSM's as theyre cheap and easy to upgrade....... like i said i have the resources and to mess with stuff like turbos and whatnot, but not to swamp motors....thats outta the ballpark for me

time will tell what i buy I still need to do my homework more...

Omni GLHS. That would be my choice for a FWD project car.
i second that notion. or possably a chager glhs selby, csx-vnt or any of the other turbo dodges. super ugly yet super fast, and undeniably cheap. check out Turbo Dodge.com(<---click there) youll find every thing you wanted to know there.
