Anyone see the $2003 challenge first place finisher 5.0 miata?
If you didn't know, you have to build a car for $2,003.00 Hard to believe anyone could do this for the money. You're allowed to sell parts up to the cost of the car. They were able to sell enough parts to deduct the entire cost of the car from their budjet. Then it was time for a 5.0 transplant and tons of custom fab work. I'd hate to see what the labor costs would have been if they couldn't have done everything themselves.
The car has to compete in an auto-x, a drag race and a concours. I saw the car run at a local auto-x last weekend. What a monster! It was loud as hell. Everyone turned their heads when they fired it up to pull it out of the trailer. Due to budjet, they had to run on Kumho R compounds. It was definately "tire limited".
Here's the website (its still under construction): http://www.v8miata.homestead.com/index.html
Definately check out the "Build-Up" section.
