green sponge/filter in the air box

Can anyone tell me what this is for? I was checking my air filter and noticed this little guy sitting under him. It's green and kinda looks like a lawn mowers air filter. It's covered in dust and either oil or gas and I was thinking about cleaning it but wasn't sure if I should or if I should just replace it.

It catches the oil vapor coming through the PCV system before it goes back through the air cleaner.

You could replace it or just clean it with brake clean or something similar.
