I have a 2004 Ford Focus ZX3, 2.3L Duratec engine, 5-speed MTX-75 transmission with 118,000 miles. When I enter and make quick turns in parking lots I hear a groaning noise coming from the front of the car. The tires are wearing normally. The car comes up and stops when either the front or rear bumpers are depressed. What is the trouble and about how much should I expect to pay in Northern California for repair? I can change my own brakes and service the oil. Is the repair of a skill level I can do myself?

Is it more a groan or screeching?

With any front end noise, culprits can be anything from worn components, broken components, or maybe low fluid levels feeding components.

How is the power steering fluid level? Any leaks?

Can you inspect the CV boots to see if there are any broken boots? If there are broken boots, there's a chance road crap entered the cracks and caused things like the CV joint fail.

Hi

The noise is a groan with a creak at the end. Its kind of like a old screen door with a rusty return. The power steering reservoir is full. I have checked for leaks at along the hoses and at the pump, but, have found none. The CV boots are intact and flexible. I cleaned and inspected the CV boots on both sides soon after I first noticed the noise. The axle weights have not moved.

thanks

Okay, I have to look up what are strut bearings, spring isolators and stab bar endlinks. I'll get back to you.

Hi

I have discovered the right stabilizer bar link upper bushing to be broken. There is a little grease leaking out and the fastener is visible. I have ordered the replacement part from a local place for about $25.00. From what I have seen on my Alldatadiy.com subscription, it shouldn't take me long to replace the stab link.

Thanks
