Hey i was wondering if anyone has had this problem i had the other day? I was at the Drag Strip and when i shifted hard to second gear then to third the linkage came off of the tranny. It diddnt break it just slipped off. i put it back on did another run and it happened again. it stays just as long as you dont shift hard. Any help will be greatly appreaciated.

Yup, many times when I go to the drag strip. Happens when you shift too fast, hard, or miss a gear. It should slide back in. Nothing to worry about unless u tore you bushing

2x at Autox's. The solution, you're not going to like this, is to shift better. I noticed it comes off when I'm too fast on releasing the clutch and the trans is not quite in gear yet. The force goes up and off comes that damn linkage.
I guess it is a sure fire way to stop more expensive things from breaking?

YES! Happened for the first time back on the 18th at an SCCA autocross. I was on my fourth and last run, shifting from first to second when the shifter went limp; tried to find a gear, ground something for a split second, then limped off-course after I found first. Back in the grid area a fellow SVTF owner came over and fixed it for me (he's had this happen several times); I had first-thru-fifth gears, but no sixth and no reverse. Took the car to Texas Motors Ford on Monday the 19th, and just got it back yesterday. Long story short: new linkage (latest updated version with more metal parts), new tranny (after installing new linkage, all forward gears worked, but reverse was MIA; Ford/SVT knows there are problems with the Getrag, so they just replace it), new MAF (rough running issues, low power, lousy gas mileage), and finally, new plug wires (evidence of arcing found on two that were touching under the cover). The car runs terrific now, this new tranny feels better than the one that came in the car originally, and I'm very pleased with the service; no questions, all covered by warranty, including a $450 rental car bill while my car was in the shop.

when I first bought my SVT it did this. After waiting anxiously for it over the weekend (especially since I owned the car less than 30 minutes when it happened), I finally got it back on Monday, only to have it happen again as I left the lot. At that point, Ford looked at it really hard and decided to replace the shifter linkage. Get this:

The new shifter linkage that was installed on my car looked NOTHING like the original linkage. Apparently Ford has redesigned the connectors on the transmission side of the linkage to prevent the connectors from popping off. You may want to have them warranty the linkage cause it definitely fixed my problem.
