My hatch got keyed not too long ago. I was going to get a car detailer to fill in and buff out the scratch, but I also noticed under my liftgate handle is some, uhh, i hate this word, err, rust spots and paint scratches. So I figure, I might as well get the hatch re-sprayed. What is the best way to prevent it from coming back? I'm going to throw away that stupid chrome hatch handle and get my origional one sanded and painted black, hoping that it should not rub the paint. Also, how much do you think it would cost to paint that area only? I was quoted $175 CDN from a reputable body shop.

SOUNDS LIKE A REALLY FAIR PRICE TO ME. ALWAYS GET A SECOND OPINION, EVEN THIRD. THE CHROME HANDLE, IS IT FOR SALE?? DO YOU KNOW WHERE I CAN GET ONE?? I'M THINKING ABOUT MAKING A RUBBER GASKET TO ILLIMINATE THE RUBBING ISSUE.
