Can someone explain what is involved in heat cycling? How much to do it, where you can get it done and if you have to heat cycle those tires every time you race? Do you have to race it as soon as you cycle them or can you wait weeks before using them.
Cheapest way to heat cycle them is put them on and drive the car for 30mins to an hour. Take them off and bag/store them until you are ready for the track.
when the R compounds heat up the molecules seperate then when you allow them to cool down again they reform in a stickier way.
Um, $15 a tire from tirerack, ordered some Tuesday. To answer your question, yes you can do it for cheap. 20-30 minutes at highway speed, then 2-3 minutes in a parking lot close to the house, if you can safely do a figure 8. Doesn't have to be fast, other wise driving around the block several times in both directions should be ok. Main thing is get them SLOWLY to working temp, then let them set OFF THE GROUND (no weight on them )to cool overnight. This does strenghten the molecular bonds. Catch 22 is you can only get this done on a NEW , never on ground set. Tires can pick up minute pebbles that will ruin the blades they use to shave. Once done, normal cycling is all you need...only a virgin once....except in those movies we keep hidden in the sock drawer
