Thats going to happen to my SVT as soon as I buy something for daily driving.

 

Here is a couple engine shots. The Odyssey PC680 isn't in the car right now, but it sits on the driver side inner fender where the stock battery tray bolts are. I made a custom tray with a billet tie down that I'll have to get a picture of soon.

The main reason I pulled all the necessary wires was simply to clean up the car and make it easier to work on. The weight savings was just a bonus. I fully plan on weighing the car before the cage is put in so I can enjoy the fruits of my labor if only for a few days :lol:

I'm not sure about rules and regs for your class, but for the sunroof you could just cut some plexiglass (lexan if you want the good stuff), make some lightweight trim brackets from just flat-stock aluminum and then just use some caulking to seal it up. Heck you could even paint it white if you wanted so light won't come through.

Oh, and the car....LOOKS LIKE FUN!!! :thumbup:

 

I have an idea for the sunroof hole. Pretty simple too, at leat to me it is, but I'm do bodywork, so it's not hard for me.

Get a piece of sheetmetal, cut it to fit the sunroof hole. Get you some 3M panel bond adhesive 81-15, the stuff is kinda pricey, about $40 a tube, but very good stuff, no shrinkage like some panel bond adhesives, and it will bond ANY 2 materials together. Use the 81-15 to secure the sheetmetal in place, then a little body filler to smooth it out, prime, and paint. I'd suggest cutting the sheetmetal maybe like 1/8 inch smaller than the hole so it kinda sits down into the cutout that is already there for the sunroof, and the panel adhesive can do it's job, and the filler can be built up properly and sanded smooth.

If you're really careful, you might be able to put a few tack welds on the "plug" to hold it in place while you applythe panel bond adhesive. And now, upon a second look, I'd saycut the sheetmetal as close to the hole size as possible for a tight fit, since the hole is cut flush all the way around.

I wish I lived closer to you, I'd come help you with pluggin that hole.

Shouldn't be too hard, but like I said, I do bodywork, so this is easy to me. Might not be as easy for an untrained person.

Or, you could turn the sunroof cutout into a roof hatch, make a piece out of some sheetmetal with some bracing on the backside, hinge it, and have a little latch on the inside to keep it from popping up when the car is running.

 

^^^ Heh, I won. Your idea is definitely a much more permanent and finished option though. The $40 for a tube of glue makes me cringe, but just like anything you get what you pay for.

It's the cheapest way by far and doesn't look to bad when it's done right. And I'll most likely paint it black. What do you think a body shop will charge to weld in a panel and blend everything?? :dunno:

Body shop would charge an arm and a leg for that, that is, IF they would even do it for you.

I'd say just try welding a piece in there, but the sheetmetal is SO damn thin on cars today, you as much as think about welding it, and it warps.

That's why I suggested a couple tack welds to hold it in place while you use another type of adhesive.

You could always make it a vent for some fresh airflow into the car.

That is sweet. How long did it take to take out all of the wire and weigh it by itself I need to know before I tackle that job.
Have you seen where I put my gauges, I really like them there on top of the airbag cover.
How much did the shifter risers cost? I would really like a set like that.

It took several weeks of chasing, cutting and pulling to clean up the wires but it was well worth it. I wouldn't focus on the weight of the wires as much as how much it cleans up the interior and makes the car "simple". I'll get the wires in a sack and weigh them soon for you and Steve (he's curious too)

As far as gauge placement, I'd really like to see where you put yours tparker. Send me a pic NOW :lol:

As for the shifter riser... I made them. I've made alot of the parts on my car simply because nobody else offers them, or what is available isn't quite up to par. Thats why I built the front strut bar, battery tray, shifter riser etc.
