Has anyone figured out if any hood scoops/vents are functional (i.e. bring in cooler air/ cool down engine bay).

I highly doubt this but I am just wondering.

Also if anyone has vents/scoops how do you deal with rain/snow getting to the engine?

you really want vents... not a scoop.

ideally you want air to run through the radiator, past the engine and out the top of the hood over the top of the car for maximum aerodynamics IIRC.

a scoop most now is used to direct air onto an intercooler, a la STI or WRC focus

Through the hoop, nothin' but net.

i think bout this from time to time but never have done any testing since i dont have any fancy equipment but seems like the vent idea is good for cooling. but some would think that you would get a ram air effect goin. i dont think you can really do ram air with a maf can you? i think the computer will just adjust make adjustments and not really let your car respond like a carb on an old roadrunner or something. someone should try this out.

Was not hard to do.

The hole was cut with a cutting wheel.
Scoop is attached to the car with some standard hardware and was also glued on.

You can make the opening a bit bigger (in the scoop)than I did, but I left mine alone because of where I live.

It does allow more air into the hood but the impact on the intake is minimal if any at all. The scoop allows cool air from the outside to enter directly into the Volant box + there is the standard air intake supplying air.

As far a performance

But it looks cool

The Hood is stock, Scoop came from focustuning.com

I have a functional WRX style scoop on my Focus. I made an airbox to isolate the air filter from the under hood air that connects to a sort of plenum that I attached to the underside of the hoods. Before the scoop my car was 3-4 tenths slower during the heat of the day than after dark. I would guess straight up gain to be maybe a tenth or 2. I'll post pics after the Cup race is over.

Ya, but I'm too stupid to know if I just took a bow shot or got a compliment.

That was a compliment.

Sometimes the combined tech knowledge on this board is so crazy it makes me laugh..... and you in particular have my respect for being a Wankel Wonk.....
