I'm having a problem with my A/C. I live in N. Florida, and I pretty much have to run the A/C during the summer. It was fine last year, but now it doesn't seem as cold. It also seem s to be putting a lot of strain on the engine, and my economy went from about 300 per tank to about 250 per tank.

I have a 2000 Wagon with 68,000 miles on it.

Could the engine perfomance problem be from the transmission needing to be serviced?

Thanks,

Huh?

A/C sucks power away because it takes energy to compress the refrigerant. That's how it chills (and thus produces cold air). You can't fix that other than to shut it off.

The A/C not being as cold may be traced to the A/C needing to be recharged. It can also be because it's shutting off at full throttle. Drive it modestly for a while and see if it gets colder, or if it stays the same.

Your tranny needing servicing has nothing to do with the A/C.
