How does the new Pontiac GTP stand up against the other "sport family sedans".

My dad is looking for a new car, and he just got out of a 2001 Acoord V6, and wants something with 4 doors thats on the performance end of the spectrum and 22,000-27,000. I told him he could always go the Accord route again, seeing as how they are more powerful and redesigned, but I was thinking Mazda 6 or WRX. Then I started looking at the new Pontiac. 260 HP and great handling (or so they claim) and built in a high quality plant. So how do you guys see this in comparison. I know the WRX is the end-all for 4 door sport sedans, but right now im just looking at options. If you have any other suggestions, feel free to let them be known.

This is the best value sedan IMO. Fast (265HP), reliable, good looking, what more ? Check the sky roof feature

I did checkout the new GTP briefly at NYIAS. The new exterior is stunning! The one single feature I love the most is that pair of tailpipes. The rest of the car looks clean yet sporty. As for the interior.. well, I am not too sure. I decided to skip through this one because I have little or no interest. But, the interior of the car on magazine ads looks much more refined and elegant than the previous version.

You might want to check out the resale value of this car though. After all, your dad just got out of a fairly new 2001 Accord V6. If he does not keep cars long, regardless of buying or leasing, it's better to find a car with better resale value. For the rest of us like myself who would probably drive our cars to the ground, well, anything goes.
Goodluck!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">i love the new maxima but its a slug, ive seen 15 sec 1/4 miles times where the 5.5 gen did low 14s(even in automatic)to mid 13's with some mild weight reduction and bolt one. I would get the wrx or sti. New altimas would be on my list also.
my mom had a 97 regal with an SC same as the gtp and it had some balls, and i like the styling of the new one.

The acura TSX(narrow platform accord) is nice and should be a lot of fun to drive.
