Basically I want to do the swap from SVT to st170 headlights, will my brights still work? Turn signals? Low beams? I'm kinda nervous not gonna lie.
I was nervous the first time I started cutting up things in my car too, it gets easier the more to do it! Yes this hack will allow all your lights to work and you even get a very cool citylight that comes on in place of the parking lights in the grille. Do you have Machs in your SVT or just the standard black housings? If you have Machs, there is no need for any wiring, they will be plug and play, if not - this hack is for you! Do you have ST170's yet or are you looking for a set?

can somebody help me out? maybe i bought the wrong size paper clips? i tried to ask the vw dealer about the tool the use but without a parts number they can't help me
1 medium paper clip
1 pair of small needle nose pliers

Unbend the clip to line up the ends parallel and insert into connector on each side of terminal. Don't try to force clip ends in with fingers or they will bend. Once clip ends are in position in the connector, use needle-nose pliers to push clip ends in further (one at a time) until you feel it disengage the retaining tabs. Make sure you grab clip ends with pliers close to the connector and 90* to clip so the clip doesn't bend.

Thank you sir, i now see where i went wrong lol and glad to know how to do this because that vw tool is rather expensive
if you take the plugs to a dealership they'll usually grab the tools and let you use them.

Just want to add that stock headlights have a little harness in them that you could cut up so you can leave your main harness alone if you wanted to. I believe you normally have to crack open the lights to get at it, but a local pick-a-part had a couple mk1s with front end damage/shattered headlights. Not sure if there is a similar way to do the turn signals though.

I just tried installing a set of hella dynabeams (non hid) today and realized it wasn't going to be a plug in play once i pulled out the connector on the stock headlight and noticed it didn't match to the new headlights. Your write up looks great and I don't think i should have a problem following it.

I have very likely a dumb question though,

The turn signal will be rendered useless right? I didn't see anything about connecting back to it in the instructions unless i missed it. I actually didn't even realize till this reading this write up there is a turn signal within the european headlights that are getting swapped in, At least judging by the wiring.

This leads to a couple more questions if the original turn signals are now rendered useless,

1) Could you hook up the existing turn signal in series (maybe it's parallel) with the new turn signal inside the new headlight (or as another option see question 2 below)
2) Are there any nice replacement grills that don't have the inside turn signals, that anyone would recommend swapping for the stock unit.

thanks,
