Ok, well i have a turbo that is oil and water colled. Right now it is only oil cooled. Can anybody tell me how to water cool it? Is the "water" the coolent? And if so where to i punch in to get it into my turbo? Thanks. Ow and Pics would help a lot.
P.S. Not new to the turbo world just forgot to water cool the turbo. Now i know why my car been eating my turbos at 314hp :bang:

I'm not sure I understand a couple of your questions, but water cooled and non-water cooled center sections are generally referred to as wet and dry, respectively, and the water does cool the turbo but is primarily there for after you turn off the car. During normal operation the oil is providing lubrication and helps cool the internal bearing assemblies but when you shut the engine off the heat starts to build up. If you were running conventional motor oil (which you'd be crazy to do on any turbo engine) this causes the oil to literally start cooking (i.e. coking) and deposits start building up. The water cooling comes into play as it will start to boil off in the center section after the car is off and helps remove heat by circulating water by a convection/siphoning affect. If you're running a good full synthetic you could probably get away with running it dry if you drove slow and out of boost the last few minutes of your drive or possibly used a turbo timer. The exception is if you have a ball-bearing center section which require the coolant lines be attached because that style turbo uses an oil restrictor on the oil feed line (since they don't need as much oil) and don't have as much oil volume to help cool while running.

And either way it won't hurt to hook up the water lines and can only help the turbocharger's longevity. As of for recommended places to take off and return coolant I can't help on that but someone may be able to chime in. If you have a Zetec maybe look into how they use the the oil-to-water cooler on the SVT's but I have a suspicion there's an easier way. :thumbup:

but my turbo kit came with these they shoot straight up from the turbo and u just splice into the line (reciculates it through the turbo)

and yea the water is the coolant

dont drive without havinbg it water cooled if thats whats recomended for that turbo i fried one of mine b4 blew all the seals on it lol
