oil temp
oil press
A/F
Boost

All electrical, except boost i think. I will wire that one when time calls

But the others are electric instead of mechanical, i figured its easier to isntall. How exactly do i install them ? WHere do i wire them to? Thnx

Find out what size the factory sensors are and get adapters if neccesary. You can run the gauge lights to your fuse box(find out which fuse is for lights). Run a fused stud to your battery to run the actual gauges. You could maybe run the lights of this too with a toggle switch. Someone else might have a better idea on this, just my .02

Is it even possible to hook up an electronic oi pressure/temp guage in our car? Does it have to have a special plug somewhere? HOw does the electronic guages hook up, let me know if i can even use em, otherwise i will return them, so help me out

Oil temp and pressure will need special fittings. The oil pressure gauge can be done by installing a tee inline with the factory oil sending unit and then installing the pressure sender for the gauge on the other end of the tee.

Oil temp., for best results, would be best to have a hole drilled and a nut welded into the oil pan so you can get a true temp reading of the oil.

A/F and boost, ask someone else!

i thought the whole point of getting electrical vs mechanical guages is that the electrical ones plug somewhere into the computer without running hoses and stuff. I got the electric guages, not mechanical

Naz...
Ok, this should answer most of your questions...

1.) A/F gauge...
Take the ground and power wires and hook up like normal. Now, you get the best result with the 2nd o2 sensor located under the car after the cat. Pull back the sleeve on the wires, you want to splice the BLACK wire. When you turn on your car it won't do much in idle but as your car gets warmed up it'll start to move back and forth.

2.) Oil pressure gauge...

Ok, get back under your car and look for your oil filter. Next to it will be the stock oil pressure sensor, unplug it. Then remove the bolt. Have a rag handy because it'll leak a little oil. Take the large adapter that came with the gauge and put it on the new sender unit. It'll make the thread pattern larger. Wrap the threads with a thin layer of plumbers tape; it'll make a better seal. screw it in to the hole.
Run all the wires like the instructions say.

3.) Boost gauge...
Well, you'll have to wait till you go FI before you can hook that up. But when you do, just run a vaccum tube and your set.

4.) Oil temp...
This is the only one I'm not sure about.
I haven't hooked one up so...sorry

Hope that helps some.

I would like to know if there was any other way to hook up an mechanical oil temp gauge without drilling into the oil pan.

I disagree with DallasZX3...sorry.

From Autometers website.

"which means you are looking for the O2 sensor somewhere between the catalytic converter and the exhaust manifold." -- which means the first O2 sensor. Summitracing confirmed you should use the first O2 (between manifold and cat).

Here is the best answer---

So, if you want to double check, or have an application not listed here, please either email us at: service@autometer.com, or call us directly at the following phone number: (815) 895-8141.

Ok naz. I'm gonna say this once so remember it.

Electrical gauges are only different than mechanical in that they do not take a sampling of the fluid and transfer the fluid to the gauge. All the fluids stay at the engine and the info is transfered to the gauge electronically.

Do you want oil temp or water temp? In your first post you ask for oil temp and oil pressure, but no mention of water temp.

If you want water temp, then you can tap into the gauge sending unit which is even more stupid easy!

[edit]btw-the water temp doesn't even need to be wired to the PCM harness, just the seperat sending unit for the gauge.

The water temp gauge will be taken from the cylinder head temp sensor. It is located behind the alternator.

i think i found it, its got a plastic connector, 2 wires, 1 brown 1 white. It says P66 on the plug, correct? So i just stick a wire from the guage to 1 of those wires huh? Ok

#16 ·
Naz, the reason you can't use the exisitng sending unit for the oil pressure is because it is just a switch and does not give actual pressure, it just switches at something like 7 pounds and that way the computer sees some pressure and will be happy!

by replacing the sender and sensor or whatever, wont that trip out the computer? Isnt the sensor there for a reason? So i have to take out the sensor and put in the sender? Im confused. Can you please tell me exactly what needs to be done down there for this to work? I dont wanna mess up my engine....im guessing there is a sensor down there for a reason

#18 ·
I've already told you. You need to install a tee where the factory sender is. You will then install the switch on one end of the tee and on the other you will install the sender for the gauge.

But really Naz, if you are getting this lost, I would just pay somebody to do it. It's not hard, but if done wrong, it can do severe damage.

#19 ·
so for water just tap into 1 of the wires...cool. Dont have to change anything or use any of the brackets or whatever that came with the guage.

For oil, do i leave the sensor unpluged or how does that work exactly?

#20 ·
When you install the factory sender, you will just plug it in like normal, the Autometer one would have to be wired as per their directions.

#21 ·
Naz, you have & must use the auto meter sending units. Since there is such a problem with you guys hooking up gauges I will get my ass under the car & take some pictures of the oil sending unit & T.
The way I hooked up the water temp gauge is I had a machine shop tap and drill the thermostat housing. whoever wants these picks E-Mail me & post these on the Jet. I will do this Sat morning est.

i know this is an old topic- but i just checked with autometer and they said to hook the a/f up to the pre cat sensor- so we are supposed to use the sensor before the cat converter. like i said- i know this is old- but i wasnt aware of which sensor to use

Where is everyone getting this T inline connector thingey from? I just got my gauges today and need to know!
Sorry to bring this up again
